DALLAS \u2013 Lexie Hull has been part of basketball teams over the years that have won two Washington state high school tournaments, an NCAA championship and an Unrivaled title a season ago.<\/p>\n
Also in 2025, she helped her Indiana Fever win the in-season WNBA Commissioner\u2019s Cup.<\/p>\n
Now she\u2019s focused on helping the Fever capture a WNBA crown. For Hull, the former Central Valley High School and Stanford star who is in her fifth professional season, that last piece is the ultimate prize.<\/p>\n
\u201cFirst year, you start the season and say you\u2019re chasing a championship, but we weren\u2019t contenders,\u201d said Hull, 26. \u201cNow, I feel like being able to surround myself with the team that we have and the staff that we have, that\u2019s really the goal. Without that, it\u2019s not a successful year. We\u2019re excited. That\u2019s just one thing we\u2019re all itching for.\u201d<\/p>\n
Entering Friday\u2019s game at home against former Washington State star Charlisse Leger-Walker and the Connecticut Sun, the Fever (25-14) owned the fifth-best record in the league. Led by guards Kelsey Mitchell (24.8 ppg) and Caitlin Clark (22.1 ppg) and center Aliyah Boston (17 ppg), Indiana has won six of its last eight as the regular season heads into its final month.<\/p>\n
\u201cI feel fortunate to be able to say I\u2019ve got a championship at every other level,\u201d Hull said. \u201cThis is the last one on that list and five years in, I feel more confident every day that we\u2019re so close.\u201d<\/p>\n
As close as they are to winning a title, the Fever players are also close off the court. The friendship between Hull and Clark has been well-documented on social media over the years.<\/p>\n
\u201cYeah, it\u2019s all you can ask for, is to have good friends on your team,\u201d Hull said. \u201cWe joke that we spend more time with each other and with our staff than we do with our partners at home. It\u2019s nice to have people that you truly do get along with. Very grateful.\u201d<\/p>\n
She\u2019s also thrilled to have another Spokane basketball legend to lean on. Briann January, the former Lewis and Clark star, played on Indiana\u2019s 2012 championship team and is in her second season as a Fever assistant coach.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s great,\u201d Hull said of having January on the bench. \u201cI love her. She\u2019s an incredible coach, an incredible basketball mind. Being a player that played on the same club team that I did growing up, it\u2019s pretty cool to see a full-circle moment.\u201d<\/p>\n
Before Hull was the sixth pick in the 2022 WNBA draft, Lexie and twin sister Lacie led CV to State 4A titles as sophomores and again as seniors. The Hull sisters later helped guide Stanford to the 2021 national championship. While Lacie now works in Austin, Texas, and still plays pickup hoops, Lexie is still going strong professionally.<\/p>\n
In addition to playing in the WNBA, she participates in two leagues that operate during the offseason \u2013 the 3-on-3 Unrivaled league and the 5-on-5 Athletes Unlimited.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe offseason is a great opportunity to continue to work on your game,\u201d she said. \u201cBeing able to do that in the States as somebody that has sacrificed being away from friends and family during the season, being able to stay here and see a lot of my friends and family during the offseason was really important for my mental health.<\/p>\n
\u201cOn the basketball side and skill development side, it\u2019s imperative to continue to play live action and against the best competition in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hull, who teamed with Chelsea Gray and Angel Reese on Rose BC to win the inaugural Unrivaled title a year ago, is coming off one of her best games of the WNBA season when she scored 14 points in a win at Chicago on Sunday. She\u2019s averaging 5.3 points and 3.1 rebounds. Her greatest contributions usually come on the defensive end, things which may or may not show up in the box score. In one sense, Hull hasn\u2019t changed a lot since her rookie season, but she\u2019s continually evolving as a player and a person.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe comfortability, confidence and understanding there\u2019s a role for everybody and feeling like you belong (is the biggest difference between me now and as a rookie),\u201d she said. \u201cAs a rookie, it\u2019s really easy to feel like you have to prove yourself every day. Being five years in, you realize everyone has a place in this league if you\u2019re willing to work hard and sacrifice a lot.
