Multimillionaire Rashaun Williams is back this fall on ABC\u2019s \u201cShark Tank\u201d as a guest investor, bringing his inspiring journey as one of the show\u2019s few Black venture capitalists to millions of viewers.<\/p>\n
With his powerful \u201cacting as if\u201d mindset, according to<\/a> Fortune, Williams encourages entrepreneurs to believe in themselves and take bold steps toward their dreams to make them happen.<\/p>\n Williams grew up on Chicago\u2019s South Side, a place where opportunities didn\u2019t always come knocking. Early in his career, he started what he calls \u201csneaking into the party,\u201d showing up at conferences and events he wasn\u2019t invited to, introducing himself, often starting with, \u201chear me out.\u201d It\u2019s a simple phrase, but one that helped open doors, as the outlet states.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t mind cold calling people. I don\u2019t mind pulling up at conferences. I don\u2019t mind acting as if,\u201d he told Fortune.<\/p>\n At just 21, this helped Williams land a job at Goldman Sachs,<\/a> but he didn\u2019t stop there. While most people his age were out having fun, he was putting in extra hours learning from private equity pros, building financial models, and soaking up experience.<\/p>\n \u201c\u2026I was doing that in the evenings when other kids were playing video games and going to the clubs and partying,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n This kind of hustle helped him get ready for bigger roles in private equity and entrepreneurship.<\/p>\n Networking has also been huge for Williams. He said that getting warm introductions \u2014 people introducing him to others who can help \u2014 has been a game-changer.<\/p>\n \u201c\u2026When I would get warm leads, I would get introduced to someone and they get introduced to someone else,\u201d he told Fortune.<\/p>\n Those connections helped him find job opportunities, partnerships, and eventually a seat on \u201cShark Tank.\u201d<\/p>\n Outside of the show, Williams, who also serves as a limited partner in the Atlanta Falcons, started a firm,<\/a> Antimatter Business Partners, to help pro athletes manage and grow their wealth. He recently teamed up with Mark Cuban<\/a> and Steve Cannon as well, to launch a $750 million sports fund<\/a> investing in NFL, NBA, and MLB teams, as AFROTECH\u2122 previously reported.<\/p>\n These projects show how he\u2019s blending sports and investment while lifting up communities that don\u2019t always get a seat at the table.<\/p>\n For Williams, being back on \u201cShark Tank\u201d isn\u2019t just about TV.
