\n\tWhile Chris Hansen<\/a> intended to keep an open mind about A24<\/a>\u2018s Primetime<\/a>, he\u2019s also apparently open to legal action.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe former To Catch a Predator host recently revealed he was given some legal advice that he could have \u201ca decent case\u201d against the Lance Oppenheim-helmed thriller, which premieres Sept. 25 in theaters, but he doesn\u2019t want to give the movie free publicity.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cPeople are looking at it,\u201d he said on SiriusXM\u2019s The Dan Abrams Show<\/a>. \u201cI don\u2019t know. One guy told me, somebody who\u2019s very, very good at all this and very entrenched in entertainment law, he said, \u2018You know, you can do that, and you probably have a decent case. How much time do you want to spend doing it?’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHansen continued, \u201cAnd the thought process here is that, if you protest it too much, do they turn it into a promotional situation where, \u2018this is the movie Chris Hansen doesn\u2019t want you to see.\u2019 Well, in reality, it\u2019s the movie Chris Hansen hasn\u2019t even seen yet, so it\u2019s a hard question to answer.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWith Robert Pattinson portraying him in the film, Hansen explained his \u201cethical\u201d issues with the use of his name and the names of his colleagues and family members for a movie that he presumes to be \u201cfiction.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt feels very exploitive to me,\u201d added Hansen. \u201cIt feels sneaky and disingenuous to me that they would do this and not even say, \u2018This is what we\u2019re doing.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHansen\u2019s latest comments come after he purchased ad space<\/a> before upcoming screenings of the film to promote his true-crime streaming network TruBlu, where he continues his sting investigations.<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter Hansen recently confirmed he\u2019s \u201cgoing to see<\/a>\u201d the movie, following an invite from the production team to a private screening, he appeared last week on Fox News, claiming he was asked to sign \u201ca very restrictive agreement<\/a>\u201d to attend the advanced screening. \u201cI\u2019ve never seen anything quite like it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe lawyers at A24 wanted me to sign away my rights to my name, image and brand essentially, as well as any potential legal rights that would come out of the movie,\u201d added Hansen. \u201cI couldn\u2019t sign that, so they didn\u2019t show me the film. I went all the way over there.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe form was an NDA that all preview audiences are asked to sign a week in advance to view in an unreleased film, in order to prevent spoilers and protect IP. Hansen reportedly refused to sign, and therefore, wasn\u2019t allowed to screen the film.<\/p>\n
