ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) \u2014 A bear that injured a north Asheville resident<\/a> more than a week ago hasn\u2019t been caught yet, the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission said on Friday, Aug. 28.<\/p>\n

NCWRC PIO Anna Gurney said they are continuing to monitor the area. She advises the public to follow BearWise Basics to improve coexistence with bears.<\/p>\n

On Aug. 18, officials said an adult female black bear entered the home on Spooks Branch Road around 8:30 p.m. through an unlocked door. The occupant encountered the bear inside the home and sustained non-life-threatening injuries as the bear tried to leave.<\/p>\n

Within 24 hours of the incident, the same bear tried to enter two homes, achieving success in entering one of them, Gurney said.<\/p>\n

As News 13 previously reported, wildlife officials said they are attempting to catch the adult black bear and euthanize it, saying it \u201cposes a threat to human safety.\u201d<\/p>\n

Over the summer, the bear has had repeated incidents, breaking into the home of the Aug. 18 injury and other nearby homes, with Gurney adding that some of the homes didn\u2019t have unsecured trash outside.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll members of a community need to adhere to safety measures for bears not to become habituated and lose fear of humans, which has become too common in the Asheville area,\u201d Gurney said in an email.<\/p>\n

Also, at the time of the Aug. 18 incident, the adult bear\u2019s three cubs were seen playing on the front porch of the north Asheville home.
