Maine astronaut Jessica Meir set for 7th spacewalk<\/p>\n

NASA astronaut Jessica Meir, a Caribou native, is scheduled to step outside the International Space Station Tuesday for her seventh career spacewalk.<\/p>\n

NASA astronaut Jessica Meir, a Caribou native, is scheduled to step outside the International Space Station on Tuesday for her seventh career spacewalk.<\/p>\n

Meir and European Space Agency astronaut Sophie Adenot are expected to begin the spacewalk at about 8:30 a.m. EDT, according to NASA. Live coverage is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m.<\/a><\/p>\n

The astronauts are expected to spend about 6 1\/2 hours outside the station completing maintenance and science-related work.<\/p>\n

NASA said their tasks will include replacing a navigational aid used by spacecraft, preparing a cosmic particle detector for future upgrades and installing jumper cables to improve data-relay systems. <\/p>\n

Tuesday\u2019s outing will be Meir\u2019s seventh career spacewalk and Adenot\u2019s third. NASA said it will be the 284th spacewalk conducted at the International Space Station since 1998.<\/p>\n

The Expedition 75 crew spent Monday preparing spacesuits, tools and procedures inside the station\u2019s Quest airlock.<\/p>\n

Meir previously returned to the International Space Station this year for her second long-duration mission in orbit. The Maine native first traveled to space in 2019 and became one of the first two women to participate in an all-female spacewalk.<\/p>\n
