The thrash metal band’s global farewell trek kicks off next year<\/p>\n
\n\tAfter 40-plus years, Dave Mustaine<\/a> is ready to put Megadeth<\/a> to rest. The thrasher announced plans for a final album and tour, and revealed a memoir is on the way.<\/p>\n \n\tMustaine posted<\/a> the announcement via his alter ego, Vic Rattlehead. The new album, titled The End Is Near, will arrive next year. The LP follows 2022\u2019s The Sick, the Dying\u2026 and the Dead!<\/a> <\/p>\n \n\t\u201cThere\u2019s so many musicians that have come to the end of their career, whether accidental or intentional,\u201d Mustaine said in a statement. \u201cMost of them don\u2019t get to go out on their own terms on top, and that\u2019s where I\u2019m at in my life right now. I have traveled the world and have made millions upon millions of fans and the hardest part of all of this is saying goodbye to them.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cWe can\u2019t wait for you to hear this album and see us on\u00a0tour,\u201d he continued. \u201cIf there was ever a perfect time for us to put out a new album, it\u2019s now. If there was ever a perfect time to\u00a0tour\u00a0the world, it\u2019s now.\u00a0This is also a perfect time for us to tell you that it\u2019s our last studio album.\u201d<\/p>\n \t\tTrending Stories<\/p>\n \n\tMustaine\u2019s memoir will also arrive next year. The book will follow the 2020 oral history Rust in Peace: The Inside Story of the Megadeth Masterpiece<\/a> and former lead guitarist Marty Friedman\u2019s memoir Dreaming Japanese<\/a>, released last year. Megadeth\u2019s global farewell tour will kick off in 2026; dates have yet to be announced.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cWe\u2019ve made a lot of friends over the years and I hope to see all of you on our global farewell tour,\u201d Mustaine said. \u201cDon\u2019t be mad, don\u2019t be sad, be happy for us all, come celebrate with me these next few years.\u00a0We have done something together that\u2019s truly wonderful and will probably never happen again.
