Travelers potentially exposed to measles at Pa. Turnpike service plaza in Westmoreland County<\/p>\n

Pennsylvania health officials are responding after they said some travelers at a service plaza along the Turnpike in Westmoreland County may have been exposed to measles. <\/p>\n

Health officials said in a release Wednesday that a person from outside the state tested positive for measles and may have exposed others at the New Stanton Service Plaza on the westbound Pennsylvania Turnpike in Westmoreland County.<\/p>\n

The individual was said to have stopped at the plaza on Aug. 17, 2026.<\/p>\n

Anyone who may have been exposed at the plaza, including at the Burger King, Starbucks, Sunoco, 7-11, restrooms, and dining area, should check their vaccination status and monitor for symptoms, the health department said. <\/p>\n

“Individuals who are not vaccinated are most at risk for infection,” officials said in a release. “Getting vaccinated is the best protection from the highly contagious measles virus, providing 97 percent lifetime protection after two doses.”<\/p>\n

People who believe they were exposed to measles and are experiencing symptoms should contact their health care provider or call the Department\u2019s toll-free hotline at 877-PA-HEALTH (877-724-3258). <\/p>\n
