Law enforcement says two people are dead after at least six people, including two police officers, were shot in downtown Minneapolis on Wednesday afternoon. A source confirmed the suspect died by suicide. <\/p>\n

A source told KSTP that Minneapolis officers were called to the apartment earlier Wednesday for a disturbance involving the same suspect. They say he was evicted from the apartment today.<\/p>\n

A city hall source told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS one officer was shot in the stomach, and another was shot in the leg. The officer who was shot in the stomach was in surgery, but considered to be in stable condition as of 6:45 p.m. The other officer who was shot received non-life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n

What we know<\/p>\n

Around 4:36 p.m., officers were called to the Loring Tower apartment building near 15 East Grant Street after it was reported someone was shot, according to a spokesperson with the Minneapolis Police Department.<\/p>\n

The first officers entered the apartment building around 4:39 p.m. and saw multiple victims on the ground in addition to hearing gunfire from the upper levels of the building.<\/p>\n

As officers followed the sound of gunfire to an upper floor, visibility from the haze became limited, and two officers were shot while another was injured.<\/p>\n

Four people were found suffering from gunshot wounds; one person died at the apartment building and another died at the hospital, MPD said. The two others who were injured are currently in the hospital. <\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear how the third officer was injured, but their injuries are non-life-threatening, MPD said.<\/p>\n

A witness told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS the shooting took place in an elevator in the apartment complex.<\/p>\n

As of 6 p.m., people were asked to avoid the area from 12th Street to Franklin Avenue and from Hennepin Avenue to Third Avenue South.<\/p>\n

As of 5:30 p.m., ATF agents, Hennepin County Sheriff\u2019s Office officials, Minneapolis police officers and Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) officials were all at the scene. <\/p>\n

Metro Transit has canceled the northbound Route 10 trip departing Leamington Ramp and Lower Gate 7.<\/p>\n

5 EYEWITNESS NEWS callers first reported the situation at around 4:50 p.m. near the area of Nicollet Avenue and East Grant Street, near multiple apartment buildings and the Minneapolis Convention Center.<\/p>\n
