{"id":837291,"date":"2026-09-05T11:32:08","date_gmt":"2026-09-05T11:32:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/837291\/"},"modified":"2026-09-05T11:32:08","modified_gmt":"2026-09-05T11:32:08","slug":"after-getting-shot-in-february-49ers-de-keion-white-is-good-to-go","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/837291\/","title":{"rendered":"After getting shot in February, 49ers DE Keion White is good to go"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The very strange 2026 for the 49ers included the February shooting of defensive end Keion White in a San Francisco bar and nightclub, which reportedly happened after the rapper Lil Baby and White <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsports.com\/nfl\/profootballtalk\/rumor-mill\/news\/police-report-keion-white-was-shot-following-argument-with-rapper-lil-baby\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">got into an argument<\/a> when Lil Baby\u2019s entourage tried to enter White\u2019s private party.<\/p>\n<p>White recently spoke about his recovery from the shooting, in an interview with Vic Tafur of The Athletic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s different because it\u2019s trauma instead of just, like, breaking an ankle with a sports-related injury,\u201d White told Tafur earlier this week. \u201cWhen you hurt yourself in football, there\u2019s a protocol for damn near everything. Football players don\u2019t just get shot every day. . . . I mean, <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7563782\/2026\/09\/04\/keion-white-49ers-recovery-week-1\/?unlocked_article_code=1.-lA.zmWc.YzlJyNCxLjTa&amp;source=emp_shared_article&amp;smid=ta-ios-share\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">I guess they do on this team<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>White was making a joke of sorts regarding the fact that, two years ago on Labor Day weekend, receiver Ricky Pearsall was shot during a robbery attempt in San Francisco.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a gunshot to the foot,\u201d White said regarding his injury. \u201cI broke my talus bone, so I had to have surgery \u2014 two screws in there. But, yeah, brush it off. [I] literally was making jokes as I was going to the hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>White told Tafur he never feared for his life; however, White reportedly has declined to identify the shooter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe funny part is, I was actually the one calming everybody else down,\u201d White said. \u201cI don\u2019t really take a lot of things seriously. I didn\u2019t even know I got shot until like five minutes after, as I was walking around.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>White\u2019s attempt to downplay the situation included a joke about a past injury to the other foot that required screws.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI got screws in each ankle now, so I\u2019m symmetrical,\u201d White said.<\/p>\n<p>He said that it was a \u201ctouch-and-go situation right up to the beginning of training camp,\u201d but he has been able to practice and is ready to play. <\/p>\n<p>As Tafur explains, the 49ers need White to play and play well.
