\u201cThe View\u201d\u00a0co-host Ana Navarro<\/a> pleaded with musical icon Gloria Gaynor<\/a> Thursday to reject her upcoming Kennedy Center award because it will be bestowed by President Donald Trump<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In a post on\u00a0Instagram<\/a>, the political commentator shared how she once met the \u201cI Will Survive\u201d singer at a concert and Gaynor gifted Navarro a keychain that belted out her famous song.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s just say, during first Trump term, I pressed it til it ran out of batteries,\u201d the anti-Trump commentator wrote. <\/p>\n

She then expressed her displeasure that Gaynor would be honored at an event hosted by the president.<\/p>\n

\u201cYesterday, Trump announced he picked her to receive a Kennedy Center Honor, which he plans to host. Look, the woman is a goddess and deserves all the flowers that come her way. But I wish she wouldn\u2019t accept an award from the hands of a man who has attacked the rights and history of women, people of color and LGBTQ,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe gay community, in particular, helped turn her signature song into an anthem. Trump is a stain on the prestige and significance of the KCH. Don\u2019t do it, Gloria!\u201d Navarro pleaded.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, Trump, the new Kennedy Center Chairman of the Board,\u00a0announced the list of entertainers\u00a0who will receive awards at the 48th annual Kennedy Center Honors in December.<\/p>\n

Gaynor joins country legend George Strait<\/a>, rock band KISS<\/a>, Hollywood star\u00a0Sylvester Stallone<\/a>, and English actor Michael Crawford as the honorees this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe View\u201d\u00a0co-host Ana Navarro took to social media to beg musical icon Gloria Gaynor to decline her upcoming Kennedy Center award because of President Donald Trump\u2019s presence. WireImage<\/p>\n

A rep for Gaynor told Fox News Digital after the announcement Wednesday that she was \u201cbeyond blessed and honored to be receiving this award.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMy hope is that in accepting this honor, I can continue with the inspirational phenomenon that began with \u2018I Will Survive.\u2019 Sharing my music and art on a global level to provide encouragement, hope, empowerment, inspiration, understanding, and unity is the core of my purpose,\u201d the rep for Gaynor shared.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always focused on a creative path that will help others and I hope that being awarded the Kennedy Center honor will help me continue this legacy.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Instagram, Navarro made a post about how she previously met the \u201cI Will Survive\u201d singer at a concert while mentioning she shouldn\u2019t accept the award from Trump, saying he \u201chas attacked the rights and history of women.\u201d Ron Sachs \u2013 CNP for NY Post<\/p>\n

Gaynor\u2019s team has not publicly addressed Navarro\u2019s comments and did not return\u00a0Fox News Digital\u2019s request for comment Thursday.<\/p>\n

Trump will host the annual awards show after his overhaul of the\u00a0Washington, DC, performing arts center in February.<\/p>\n

Shortly into his second term, Trump fired several Kennedy Center board members, including the president and Chairman of the Board, and replaced them with pro-Trump figures, who then named the president as chair.<\/p>\n

In a February post on Truth Social announcing the changes, Trump vowed to make the performing arts center \u201cgreat again,\u201d by removing board members who did not share his administration\u2019s \u201cvision for\u00a0a Golden Age in arts and culture.\u201d <\/p>\n

Trump said that drag shows \u201ctargeting\u201d children were one example of programming at the Kennedy Center that would end under his leadership.<\/p>\n

His actions\u00a0stirred backlash\u00a0in the theater and film world, with multiple entertainers, including showrunner Shonda Rhimes, singer Ren\u00e9e Fleming, and actress Issa Rae, resigning from their roles at the Kennedy Center or canceling upcoming performances at the venue in protest.<\/p>\n
