FOXBORO, MASS. (WHDH) – Patriots fans are pumped that the team locked down their star cornerback, Christian \u201cGonzo\u201d Gonzalez, to a record-breaking deal.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am psyched,\u201d Racheal Friend said, a Patriots fan. \u201cThat\u2019s awesome news. I am so happy for him.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHe deserves it,\u201d Matt Zettek said. \u201cHe lets his play on the field do it; he\u2019s a good teammate. Everything about him is great. It\u2019s just what the Patriots need to start the season.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fans are thrilled with the news, but surprised the deal took so long. <\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know, to be honest, why it took so long,\u201d Sarwat Aziz said. \u201cHe\u2019s been a terrific player, a great add for us a few years ago, so long awaited. I\u2019m glad it happened.\u201d<\/p>\n
Since he was drafted in 2023, Gonzo has become a fan favorite in New England with an impressive showing throughout last year\u2019s playoff run that helped propel the team to the Super Bowl.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s been a great player with us from the get-go,\u201d Zettek said. \u201cDay one. So out of all the good moves the Patriots can do, this is a good one.\u201d<\/p>\n
Now, fans are looking forward to seeing the 24-year-old get back to work.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m excited,\u201d Aziz said. \u201cI can\u2019t wait to see him play.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fans will be back at Gillette Stadium in week two to cheer on Gonzo when the Pats take on the Pittsburgh Steelers. <\/p>\n
