A New Bern counselor has been selected to present original research at the 25th Anniversary World Congress of the Viktor Frankl Institute of Logotherapy in Chicago.<\/p>\n
Sherwood Miller Harrison III, a professional counselor and licensed skydiver, will present at the conference, which is scheduled for Sept. 23-26.<\/p>\n
Harrison\u2019s presentation is titled \u201cThe Drop Zone as Existential Crucible: Logotherapy, the Will to Meaning, and the Human Search for Hope.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to Monte Cristo Counseling PLLC, the research explores how skydiving, described as a voluntary confrontation with fear, freedom, and finitude, can become a powerful act of meaning-making.<\/p>\n
This research looks at how people discover meaning when they willingly step into uncertainty,\u201d Harrison said. \u201cSkydiving offers a vivid, embodied way to understand hope, responsibility, and the human drive to make life matter.<\/p>\n
Harrison\u2019s research draws from narrative accounts of licensed skydivers and his own experience as an advanced-licensed skydiver. His presentation examines how Viktor Frankl\u2019s concepts come alive at 14,000 feet, according to the counseling practice.<\/p>\n
Harrison has practiced counseling since 2009 and provides outpatient telehealth services across North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Texas. He specializes in cognitive-behavioral therapy.<\/p>\n
His practice, Monte Cristo Counseling PLLC, serves adults, families and youth throughout Eastern North Carolina and is in-network with major insurance panels.<\/p>\n
In addition to his clinical work, Harrison offers volunteer counseling and school-based psychoeducation. His broader interests include aviation, ethics advocacy, sailing, and service in the Coast Guard Auxiliary.<\/p>\n
Harrison is completing his Ph.D. in counselor education and supervision at Liberty University this fall. He is also a member of the American Counseling Association and the North Carolina Counseling Association.<\/p>\n
Monte Cristo Counseling provides evidence-based outpatient mental health services to adults, families, and youth across Eastern North Carolina. The practice emphasizes cognitive-behavioral therapy, logotherapy, and practical, action-oriented approaches to personal growth.<\/p>\n
