I’m glad that the lines are now being updated, however from what I understand, when the new fiber optic Fios lines are put in, they will not be connected immediately. That means I will lose my DSL that I have currently because they are taking out all of the old copper lines. And we have no timeline when we can use the new Fios lines.”

Clearfield County Commissioner David Glass gave an update on the broadband project in the county.

“We’ve been frustrated with Verizon because they received the broadband infrastructure program grants a year ago,” said Glass. “We were told a year ago that parts of the county were accepted into the program. Then everything went radio silent.

“I got a meeting with a gentleman from Verizon and not only did he talk to me about what they’re doing, he actually sent me a spreadsheet of every address that’s going to be served by the grant,” said Glass.

“It doesn’t give the specifics that we really wanted, it doesn’t say they’ll have service by a specific date, but it says whether they’re still in engineering or what stage of construction, and when they hope service will start beginning. Some areas are slated for late August or September,” said Glass. “It was a positive update, and as I get more information, I will pass it along to residents.”

Glass noted that anyone who wants to know if their address is on the list can email him.

“I’m not allowed to disseminate the entire list, but I can say whether or not your address is on the list,” he said.

Glass can be reached by email at dglass@clearfieldco.org.

In other business, the commissioners approved appointing Adam Curry to the Curwensville Lake Board.

“He (Curry) would take an interest and I think he would be a very conscientious board member,” said Glass.

CLEARFIELD – Broadband internet coverage update for Clearfield County was discussed during Tuesday’s Clearfield County Commissioners meeting.
