Canada’s retaliatory tariffs are hitting these US products<\/p>\n

Cheese, aluminum foil, smartphones and toilet paper among impacted products<\/p>\n

Canada\u2019s retaliatory tariffs on U.S. imports took effect at 12:01 a.m. Eastern time on Sept. 8. More than 600 U.S. imports<\/a> were listed on Canada’s Department of Finance website; among them are cheese, aluminum foil, smartphones and toilet paper.<\/p>\n

About $27.6 billion in imports<\/a> from the U.S. will face levies as high as 50%, according to Canada\u2019s Department of Finance, impacting American businesses that export goods to Canada. <\/p>\n

The Get the Facts Data Team analyzed U.S. International Trade Commission<\/a> data on U.S. imports to Canada in 2025 and narrowed it down to select food and household items that will be facing 25 to 50% tariffs from Canada and the value imported last year. <\/p>\n

Canada is America’s second-largest trading partner. In 2025, more than $333.6 billion worth of goods were imported into Canada from the U.S., according to trade data. <\/p>\n

The retaliatory tariffs come as the Trump administration threatened to impose 50% tariffs on similar Canadian goods after trade talks between the two countries broke down.<\/p>\n
