\n\tGary Oldman<\/a> has reflected playfully on creating headlines around the world with his comments about the James Bond<\/a> casting process.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn an interview with Canadian broadcaster Global over the weekend<\/a>, Oldman claimed that 007 had been selected. Oldman added that he hoped his Slow Horses co-star Jack Lowden<\/a> would get the role.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s been rumored that he\u2019s on the shortlist. We\u2019re going to find out pretty soon, aren\u2019t we? Because they have picked him. They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet. So my fingers are crossed for Jack.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIt was not clear from Oldman\u2019s comments whether he meant that Lowden had been cast as Bond, or whether he was talking more generally about Amazon MGM Studios alighting on Ian Fleming\u2019s secret agent.<\/p>\n

\n\tWell, now we know. Speaking during a Visionaries session at TIFF<\/a>, Oldman told Josh Horowitz that he does not know who will be playing Bond \u2014 but he stands by his suggestion that the role has been cast.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThere\u2019s six people on a shortlist. I heard a rumor that they\u2019ve picked James Bond, but they haven\u2019t announced it yet, which is their prerogative,\u201d Oldman said. \u201cSo I do not know [who has got the part], but I\u2019m hoping it\u2019s Jack.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Oscar winner joked that he had a \u201cred phone\u201d to the \u201cBond people\u201d and, even if he did know the identity of 007, he would not reveal the state secret. <\/p>\n

\n\tOldman added that he learned his lesson after letting slip about the greenlight for The Dark Knight Rises, the third film in Christopher Nolan\u2019s Batman trilogy. \u201cI got reprimanded for that,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\n\tAsked if he would consider playing a Bond baddie, Oldman replied: \u201cDon\u2019t do drugs and Bond villains.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tOdds on Lowden becoming Bond shortened after Oldman\u2019s remarks. Deadline reported\u00a0<\/a>over the summer that auditions were taking place for James Bond in August. Producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman, as well as director Denis Villeneuve, informed talent who had been shortlisted.<\/p>\n
