In a statement to The Verge, Meta spokesperson Dina El-Kassaby says the company \u201cmissed the mark,\u201d adding that \u201cthe feature never should have prompted the individual with questions like that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">Last week, Instagram user Kalie Robins <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/Dcy8LU3S7DF\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">posted a video<\/a> explaining how Meta AI presented her with an invasive suggestion after cross-posting a clip to Facebook. The AI prompt, \u201cWho is the child passenger?\u201d appeared beneath a video of her and her child singing in the car. When she selected the prompt, Robins says Meta AI pieced together information about her daughters from her previous posts, as well as posts from her relatives. It suggested additional prompts asking about her children\u2019s ages and where Robins lives with her family. Robins says Meta AI also showed photos of her daughters posted to the platform, including one she claims she deleted years ago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1044qizi _18mzr4b1 _18mzr4b0 _19wv7tc1\">Meta has built its AI assistant into Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger, where it can answer questions, write posts, and generate images. In July, the company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/tech\/964416\/meta-instagram-ai-muse-image-deepfakes\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">pulled a feature<\/a> that allowed people to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/tech\/962485\/meta-muse-image-ai-model-instagram\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">create AI deepfakes<\/a> of other Instagram users after facing fierce backlash.
