Bangkok, Thailand, 11 September 2026\u00a0\u2013 Thailand\u2019s growing focus on health, nutrition and preventive care is creating new opportunities for Norwegian companies\u00a0seeking\u00a0to\u00a0establish\u00a0a stronger foothold in Southeast Asia, according to the\u00a0Thai-Norwegian\u00a0Chamber of Commerce.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The opportunity was\u202fhighlighted through Norwegian participation at Vitafoods Asia 2026, where 10 companies\u00a0presented\u00a0marine-based ingredients, food supplement technologies and science-led nutritional products to Thai businesses and other regional industry players.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The companies\u00a0were\u00a0looking beyond conventional product distribution, with potential areas of cooperation ranging from ingredient sourcing and manufacturing to product development,\u00a0investment\u00a0and longer-term commercial partnerships.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Jostein Aksnes, Vice President of\u00a0Thai-Norwegian\u00a0Chamber of Commerce,\u00a0said Thailand\u2019s growing interest in health and preventive healthcare is creating a natural point of connection between the two markets.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is growing interest in Thailand in health, nutrition and preventive healthcare, while Norway has established expertise in developing food supplements and nutritional ingredients with a focus on quality, traceability and responsible production,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Thailand\u2019s manufacturing,\u00a0distribution\u00a0and market capabilities are another factor attracting interest from Norwegian businesses. Aksnes said these capabilities could help companies entering Thailand\u00a0establish\u00a0local partnerships and explore opportunities in other Southeast Asian markets.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n

The potential comes as Thailand\u2019s dietary supplements market continues to expand. According to Grand View Research\u2019s Thailand Dietary Supplements Market report, the market was valued at approximately 91 billion baht in 2025 and is projected to reach 189 billion Baht by 2033,\u00a0representing\u00a0a compound annual growth rate of 9.6% from 2026 to 2033.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n

For Norwegian companies, the appeal is not limited to Thailand\u2019s domestic consumer market. The combination of growing demand, manufacturing\u00a0capabilities\u00a0and regional distribution networks provides a potential platform for companies with\u00a0specialised\u00a0products and ingredients.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Norway and Thailand are entering this next phase of commercial engagement on the back of a longstanding bilateral relationship. The countries marked 120 years of diplomatic relations in 2025, when the Thailand\u2013EFTA Free Trade Agreement, signed in January 2025, is expected to enter into force on 1 January 2027.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The agreement is expected to provide a stronger framework for commercial ties between Thailand and the EFTA economies, including Norway, as companies assess opportunities for greater cross-border trade and investment.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The food supplement sector illustrates the potential for cooperation beyond finished consumer products. Norwegian companies\u00a0participating\u00a0at Vitafoods Asia cover areas including marine omega-3, phospholipid ingredients, krill oil, marine proteins, marine heme iron, marine\u00a0collagen\u00a0and\u00a0specialised\u00a0nutrient delivery technologies.<\/p>\n

Many of these products draw on Norway\u2019s longstanding\u00a0expertise\u00a0in marine resources, while incorporating research, traceability and sustainability into their development and production.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Among the exhibitors are Aker\u00a0BioMarine, Arctic\u00a0BioScience,\u00a0Biosan,\u00a0Concordix,\u00a0Epax, GC Rieber\u00a0VivoMega, NYO3,\u00a0Rimfrost,\u00a0SalmoFer\u00a0by Ler\u00f8y Seafood and\u00a0Seagarden.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The participation was complemented by an Exclusive Welcome Reception at Fairmont Bangkok Sukhumvit, supported by the Royal Norwegian\u00a0Embassy\u00a0and\u00a0organised\u00a0by TNCC. The event attracted approximately 90 participants, bringing Norwegian exhibitors together with Thai importers,\u00a0distributors\u00a0and other industry stakeholders. <\/p>\n

For the Embassy and TNCC, such engagement is intended to extend beyond introductions at an industry event. Their role also involves helping companies identify\u00a0suitable local partners and\u00a0maintain\u00a0relationships as they assess and develop opportunities in the Thai market.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe interest we have seen demonstrates the potential for cooperation across the food supplement value chain,\u201d Aksnes said. \u201cOur role is to help businesses establish the right connections and support those relationships as they develop into longer-term commercial opportunities.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

As Thailand\u2019s health and nutrition market continues to evolve, the growing interaction between Norwegian suppliers and Thai businesses could open opportunities across a wider part of the value chain, from\u00a0specialised\u00a0marine ingredients and scientific innovation to manufacturing, distribution and regional expansion.\u00a0<\/p>\n
