EAST LANSING, Mich. \u2014 A 39-year-old man is accused of sexually assaulting two of his patients while he was a resident physician at a Michigan State University healthcare facility.<\/p>\n
The former resident physician, Arpit Saxena, is facing three counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct, according to the Michigan State University Department of Police and Pubic Safety (DPPS).<\/p>\n
The charges stem from an April 3, 2025 incident in which a woman reported being sexually assaulted by Saxena during a medical appointment at a facility on South Hagadorn Road. <\/p>\n
Officers and a police social worker met with the woman before the case was forwarded to the DPPS Special Victims Unit for further review. <\/p>\n
Saxena was no longer seeing patients by April 7, 2025 before eventually being dismissed from his position, though officers did not provide an exact date for his dismissal, according to MSU DPPS. <\/p>\n
During the investigation, DPPS learned another woman reported being sexually assaulted by Saxena. The date of that assault was not disclosed.<\/p>\n
The investigation was submitted to the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office on Aug. 28, 2025 and a felony warrant for the aforementioned charges was authorized on Sept. 3, 2026. <\/p>\n
Saxena was then arrested in Atlanta, Georgia, and is being held in the Clayton County Jail in Jonesboro pending an extradition hearing, police said.<\/p>\n
Investigators said they recognize there may be additional incidents that have not been reported, and shared the following message:<\/p>\n
If you were a patient of resident physician Saxena between July 1, 2024, and April 7, 2025, and if you experienced conduct during your care that made you feel uncomfortable, unsafe, or otherwise concerned, we kindly ask you to contact DPPS and allow us an opportunity to listen to your experience. We are deeply sorry for the harm this has caused and apologize to those affected by this abuse. We understand the impact these acts have on members of our community, and we extend our empathy and care.We take any report of sexual abuse or misconduct extremely seriously and understand our responsibility to ensure the safety of those who seek care at our facilities.A violation was first reported in April 2025 and the college and university took prompt action to remove the individual from patient care and initiate the appropriate reporting processes.Our Office for Civil Rights reviews reports of sexual misconduct and offers supportive measures to those impacted. This has been a coordinated response and complex process with careful consideration for the privacy of those involved.
