SpaceX is entering a critical phase for Starship as it weighs the rocket\u2019s near-term role as a revenue generator against its longer-term ambitions for lunar and Mars missions, Bloomberg reports.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n

The company plans to use upcoming Starship flights to deploy its more powerful V3 Starlink satellites, which could significantly expand the satellite business that generated $11.4 billion in revenue in 2025. Starship\u2019s success is important because SpaceX eventually wants the vehicle to replace Falcon 9 and launch satellites at a much higher frequency, potentially reaching near-daily flights.\u00a0<\/p>\n

At the same time, Starship is central to roughly $4.3 billion in NASA contracts tied to returning astronauts to the moon, as well as plans for future deep-space exploration and orbital AI data centers. Reaching those goals will require additional testing, including demonstrating in-space fuel transfer and developing specialized versions of Starship for NASA missions.\u00a0<\/p>\n

SpaceX has already invested more than $15 billion in Starship and is expanding its launch infrastructure, including a planned $100 billion Louisiana spaceport. The company faces competing demands from Starlink, commercial customers and the U.S. government, while each Starship launch remains a potential trade-off between generating revenue and advancing more complex capabilities.\u00a0<\/p>\n

With government contracts accounting for roughly one-fifth of SpaceX\u2019s reported revenue, maintaining those relationships will also be important as the company balances its commercial ambitions with its long-term vision for human space exploration.<\/p>\n
