Syda Productions \u2013 stock.adobe.com<\/p>\n<p>Nocturia isn\u2019t simply a bladder issue, according to Dr. Jeffrey Chester, a licensed physician and medical director of The Ohana Luxury Addiction Treatment Center in Hawaii.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA change in nighttime urinary patterns is definitely worth mentioning to a physician or healthcare provider, especially when it begins suddenly, becomes more frequent, or disrupts a person\u2019s sleep,\u201d Chester told Fox News Digital.<\/p>\n<p>Alcohol and <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/07\/20\/health\/how-much-coffee-a-day-is-safe-and-linked-to-heart-benefits\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">caffeine intake<\/a>, the amount and timing of fluid consumption, and certain medications can all contribute, he added.<\/p>\n<p>Waking up once isn\u2019t a cause for concern, agreed Catherine Darley, a naturopathic doctor and founder of <a href=\"http:\/\/skilledsleeper.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Skilled Sleeper<\/a> in Seattle, but more than once can be \u201cconcerning,\u201d she told Fox News Digital.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tKeep up with today\u2019s most important news\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"inline-module__cta\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tStay up on the very latest with Evening Update.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tThanks for signing up!\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Experts note that it can raise the risk of falls, especially for those with mobility or balance challenges. <\/p>\n<p>Research shows two or more nightly trips to the bathroom are linked to a higher risk of fall-related injuries, StudyFinds reported.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/09\/07\/health\/insomniac-a-trick-used-for-babies-could-help-you-sleep\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sleep disorders<\/a> can also be a factor, Darley said, including <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/29\/health\/holy-grail-sleep-apnea-pill-can-cut-episodes-by-over-50\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">obstructive sleep apnea<\/a>, which can affect hormones involved in suppressing urine production overnight. <\/p>\n<p>Research shows two or more nightly trips to the bathroom are linked to a higher risk of fall-related injuries, StudyFinds reported. PR Image Factory \u2013 stock.adobe.com<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/10\/health\/common-condition-could-be-key-risk-factor-for-parkinsons-disease-study\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Restless legs syndrome<\/a> could also contribute to nighttime urination and is more common with age, Darley added.<\/p>\n<p>She advised starting with your primary care provider to look for an underlying cause, and checking in with doctors and pharmacists to see if medications could be involved in frequent bathroom trips.
