Musician Art Garfunkel has joined the growing list of celebrities considering leaving the United States in response to President Donald Trump\u2019s administration and policies.<\/p>\n

In an interview with The Guardian<\/a>, Garfunkel, 84, told the British publication he is concerned about the country\u2019s stance on key issues and is considering moving elsewhere.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t like America\u2019s position at all,\u201d he told the outlet. \u201cI\u2019m not aboard, and I\u2019m thinking of leaving the country, frankly.\u201d<\/p>\n

Garfunkel expressed concern about climate change, international affairs and other political issues.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s real that the planet is getting warmer, that the water\u2019s rising, that so many people are starving,\u201d Garfunkel said in the piece that originally ran Sept. 4.<\/p>\n

He also criticized Trump\u2019s decision to launch a military operation that resulted in the capture of then-Venezuelan President Nicol\u00e1s Maduro,<\/a> who is facing a slew of federal charges while currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, New York.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen Donald Trump took over Venezuela,<\/a> are those the new rules? Just take over a country and run it?\u201d Garfunkel said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s shocking, and you think, \u2018How on earth are we gonna change the presidency?\u2019 But Trump won\u2019t last forever, so we\u2019ve got to hope,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The New York City-born musician is among the latest American celebrities to consider moving abroad or to have relocated while criticizing Trump\u2019s presidency.<\/p>\n

Notably, comedian Rosie O\u2019Donnell moved to Ireland<\/a> after Trump\u2019s 2024 election victory, while director James Cameron has long planned a permanent move to New Zealand and criticized Trump<\/a> as his New Zealand citizenship approached.<\/p>\n

Former daytime talk show host Ellen DeGeneres has said Trump\u2019s election prompted her<\/a> and wife Portia de Rossi to make their stay in the United Kingdom permanent.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, \u2018He got in,’\u201d DeGeneres told broadcaster Richard Bacon, according to the BBC in 2025. \u201cAnd we\u2019re like, \u2018We\u2019re staying here.’\u201d<\/p>\n

In August, O\u2019Donnell returned to the United States<\/a> for a weeklong guest-hosting stint on \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!\u201d The 64-year-old comic then turned her attention to her new residency in Ireland.<\/p>\n

On the Aug. 17 show, she referred to Trump as \u201cMango Mussolini.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI read that Project 2025 and said, \u2018Got to get myself out of here, you know,\u2019 and I decided to go to Ireland, a place where people are driven to drink regardless of who\u2019s running their country,\u201d O\u2019Donnell said.<\/p>\n

The celebrity relocations and threats to leave the country have drawn the attention of Democratic strategist Kaivan Shroff.<\/p>\n

\u201cCelebrity threats to leave the country are usually pretty easy to roll your eyes at,\u201d Shroff told Fox News Digital. \u201cMost never actually do \u2014 Rosie O\u2019Donnell aside. But Garfunkel is 84 years old and has spent more than six decades as one of the most recognizable figures in American music, so this doesn\u2019t exactly read like somebody trying to launch a political brand.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s interesting is the level of alienation he\u2019s expressing,\u201d he continued. \u201cHe\u2019s looking at the country he has lived in his entire life and saying, essentially, \u2018I don\u2019t recognize our role in the world anymore.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Shroff told Fox News Digital that he believes Garfunkel\u2019s comments about moving abroad are more of a political statement than a commitment to leave the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe line about leaving America is obviously going to get the attention, but I don\u2019t think that\u2019s really what Garfunkel is saying here,\u201d Shroff said. \u201cHe sounds genuinely disturbed by where he thinks the country is headed, particularly by the idea that the United States can simply decide the old rules no longer apply. People can disagree with his politics, but that kind of unease is hardly unique to Art Garfunkel.\u201d<\/p>\n
