Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys will likely be adding some new decor objects to their stunning Brooklyn Heights brownstone after Monday\u2019s Emmy Awards. <\/a><\/p>\n

The pair are both in the running for some prestigious hardware as they\u2019re nominated for a total of five awards, making them the unofficial prom king and queen of the night. <\/p>\n

After meeting playing husband and wife on the FX hit \u201cThe Americans\u201d in 2012, while Russell <\/a>was still married, they went on to become an offscreen duo.<\/p>\n

They\u2019ve now been together for more than a decade, have built an idyllic Brooklyn life together and become TV\u2019s de facto power couple.<\/p>\n

Russell, 50, is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Netflix\u2019s \u201cThe Diplomat,\u201d on which she plays feisty ambassador Kate Wyler. She\u2019s also picked up an executive producer nomination for the show.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Rhys, 51, is nominated twice for individual acting performances \u2014 as a small-island mayor in Apple TV\u2019s horror-comedy \u201cWidow\u2019s Bay\u201d and for playing a superrich mogul who is suspected of killing his wife\u00a0in Netflix\u2019s \u201cThe Beast in Me.\u201d He also picked up an executive producer nomination for \u201cWidow\u2019s Bay.\u201d<\/p>\n

Amidst all of the acclaim, the two have remained remarkably down-to-earth.<\/p>\n

\u201cDoing awards shows is unnatural,\u201d Russell told Variety <\/a>last month. \u201cThis year I was like, \u2018Should I get a beta blocker? Would that actually help, or would I do something really embarrassing?\u2019<\/p>\n

They met on the set of FX hit \u201cThe Americans\u201d in 2012, where they played a husband and wife KGB couple.<\/p>\n

\u201cAm I going to try Xanax?\u201d Rhys added. \u201cWe do say this every year: \u2018Let\u2019s enjoy this, because it \u2014\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201c \u2018Could be the last,\u2019 \u201d Russell continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cI still get very nervous going to them every time,\u201d Rhys said. \u201cIt\u2019s not comfortable. And as much as we say, \u2018Let\u2019s enjoy this,\u2019 I never enjoy it, because I\u2019m always scared and worried and anxious.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although they\u2019ll be making a very public outing, the couple have always conducted their relationship away from prying eyes.<\/p>\n

Back in early 2014, I was watching rugby with a few pals in the famed Red Lion on Bleeker Street in NYC\u2019s West Village when we bumped into Rhys.<\/p>\n

The beers were flowing and we quickly started chatting away.<\/p>\n

Was Rhys dating anyone, I teased him after Page Six had reported he\u2019d been spotted out with his on-screen wife.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m seeing someone,\u201d the Welsh actor replied with a cheeky grin. \u201cShe\u2019s in the costume department.\u201d<\/p>\n

The pair have never detailed when they actually got together, but during an 2017 appearance on \u201cWatch What Happen Live,\u201d when Andy Cohen asked Rhys if they fell in love on the show, he replied, \u201cYes, absolutely.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked if Russell had fallen for Rhys while she was still married, an industry source told Page Six, \u201cAbsolutely.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s never been quite reported that she left her husband for Matthew,\u201d said another source who knows the pair. \u201cBut all I can say is the timeline makes sense.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now the pair live with Russell\u2019s kids, son River, 19, and daughter Willa, 15, from her marriage to contractor Shane Deary, and their son Sam, 10, in a stunning brownstone they renovated.<\/p>\n

Rhys admitted he can\u2019t believe his luck, telling Page Six <\/a>in 2025 that Russell was out of his league. \u201cI still wonder how I\u2019m getting away with it,\u201d he joked.<\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t, however, necessarily love at first sight for the two.<\/p>\n

In 2017, they recalled their first encounter on \u201cWWHL<\/a>\u201d with Cohen. Rhys explained he initially asked Russell out after a kickball game in 2002.<\/p>\n

\u201cI very drunkenly asked for her number,\u201d he recalled.<\/p>\n

Rhys said he left Russell a boozy message \u2014 and she didn\u2019t return the call.<\/p>\n

Russell, meanwhile, forgot all about the encounter until they started filming \u201cThe Americans\u201d in 2012.<\/p>\n

The couple, seen back in 2017, live with Russell\u2019s two children from her first marriage and their shared son in Brooklyn. GOL\/BACKGRID<\/p>\n

\u201cYou said, \u2018You know, we\u2019ve met before, I said, \u2018No, we haven\u2019t.\u2019 You said, \u2018Yeah, 10 years ago at a kickball party.\u2019 As soon as you said that, I went, \u2018Of course I remember that!\u2019 \u201d she told Rhys and Cohen.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, it wasn\u2019t kickball but playing two KGB spies living in the Washington, DC, suburbs on \u201cThe Americans\u201d that brought them together. The show started shooting in early 2012. In December 2013, it was announced that Russell and Deary had split<\/a>, with her rep saying they\u2019d separated over the summer. <\/p>\n

Russell and Rhys kept their romance under wraps before tacitly confirming they were dating in March 2014 when they were spotted holding hands on a date at The Public Theater in New York City, where they saw Steven Soderbergh\u2019s play, \u201cThe Library.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now they are homebodies in brownstone Brooklyn, regularly spotted at local coffee shops and farmers markets.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019ve become kind of fixtures of the neighborhood,\u201d said the source who knows them, noting that Rhys has frequently been the auctioneer and host for the annual Brooklyn Bridge Park Gala, supporting the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re so friendly and normal,\u201d the source added. \u201cThey seem to be very into each other, you see them walking around like any other couple.\u201d<\/p>\n

Russell \u2014 facing off against Zendaya of \u201cEuphoria\u201d and Rhea Seehorn of \u201cPluribus,\u201d as well as Carrie Coon for \u201cThe Gilded Age\u201d and Chase Infiniti in \u201cThe Testaments\u201d \u2014 may be the Emmys most overdue nominee.<\/p>\n

She\u2019s been on TV since she was 15 \u2014 she was cast on the \u201cAll New Mickey Mouse Club\u201d alongside future superstars Britney Spears, Ryan Gosling and Christina Aguilera \u2014 and has received six Emmy nominations but never won.<\/p>\n

Her breakout role came at age 22, starring as a doe-eyed, wild-maned NYU student on J.J. Abrams\u2019s \u201cFelicity.\u201d The show ran from 1998 to 2002 and made her, and her curly hair, something of a \u201990s icon.<\/p>\n

By the time\u00a0\u201cFelicity\u201d came to an end, Russell was spent. \u201cI didn\u2019t want to do it anymore,\u201d she told The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> in 2018 of acting, and she decided to step away from the business, possibly forever.<\/p>\n

She moved to New York and tried to live as normal a life as possible \u2014 a hiatus that \u201csaved me,\u201d she said \u2014 before ultimately wading back into the business in the 2004\u00a0Neil LaBute\u00a0play\u00a0\u201cFat Pig.\u201d But it was \u201cThe Americans\u201d that brought her officially back into the spotlight.<\/p>\n

This March, she received the Actor Award for \u201cThe Diplomat,\u201d which, along with the Netflix political drama earning its highest Emmy nomination tally for its third season, makes her the night\u2019s dark horse.<\/p>\n

Rhys, meanwhile, is something of a favorite. \u201cWidow\u2019s Bay\u201d could well sweep the Emmys, nabbing him a Lead Actor in a Comedy trophy. <\/p>\n

He\u2019s also a strong contender for\u00a0Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for his work on \u201cThe Beast in Me.\u201d If he wins both, it would be a rare occurrence. The only male actor ever to nab two acting Emmys in a single year is James Earl Jones, who pulled off the double win in 1991.<\/p>\n

No matter what happens, the two have won at love. <\/p>\n

Russell lovingly refers to Rhys as \u201cmy Welsh guy.\u201d While accepting the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for \u201cThe Americans,\u201d in September 2018, he praised his longtime partner as \u201cthe woman who truly got me this award, who just stands in front of me every day and just puts up with me.\u201d<\/p>\n

The two have never married, and if and when they ever do, don\u2019t count on any public proposals. <\/p>\n

Rhys has joked that if he were to propose on a public stage, she would \u201cpunch [him] clean in the mouth.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDo it on your own time, man! For me to have to do anything public is horrifying,\u201d Russell recently told Variety. \u201cI would die. I would say no.
