It’s no secret that the Sacramento Kings see Keegan Murray as a franchise cornerstone. The problem is that, while he has shown improvement, he hasn’t really played like it. The key to fully unlocking Keegan’s potential could be signing his brother Kris as the twins play incredibly well together.

The NBA has been home to several sets of twins over the years, including the Lopez brothers, the Thompson brothers, and the Martin brothers. Sacramento’s own Keegan Murray is one half of such a duo with his brother playing for the Blazers until a trade moved him to the Grizzlies in the offseason.

Now, Kris is sitting on a bit of a bubble in Memphis. The Grizzlies have too many players, and will need to make cuts before the 2026-2027 season starts. Kris has been highlighted as one of the likely players to go. That would leave him unrostered for the first time since being drafted in 2023.

If that happens, the Kings are in a position to help Kris out. They have one spot open on their main roster and just enough cap space to sign him to a veteran minimum contract. That would reunite the Murray brothers on the same team since college, and could be important to Keegan’s career.

Keegan and Kris together could change the Kings

The Murrays played together when they were Iowa Hawkeyes, demonstrating the unbelievable chemistry built by years on the court as a team. Both Keegan and Kris have noted that they barely need to speak to each other on the court, each knowing almost exactly what the other is doing.

Beyond good ol’ fashioned twin telepathy, there’s a reason they work so well together. Keegan is a pure scorer while Kris is a facilitator and playmaker. Together, they are two sides of the same coin, a pairing that won Iowa a Big Ten Tournament Championship in 2022. Keegan was drafted right after.

Separating the brothers could explain why Keegan’s game has always felt off, possibly even a little incomplete. He’s still good on his own, of course. But reuniting him with Kris could be the catalyst to unlocking Keegan’s full potential as an NBA star. It could also provide a boost to Kris’s game.

If the opportunity presents itself, the Kings should seriously consider making it happen. Pairing the Murrays in Sacramento may just create the strong foundation for the rebuild the Kings are working on. If nothing else, it could lead to hilarity as their teammates struggle to tell them apart.
