{"id":848147,"date":"2026-09-15T02:28:10","date_gmt":"2026-09-15T02:28:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/848147\/"},"modified":"2026-09-15T02:28:10","modified_gmt":"2026-09-15T02:28:10","slug":"21st-annual-canstruction-returns-to-downtown-honolulu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/848147\/","title":{"rendered":"21st Annual CANstruction returns to Downtown Honolulu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) &#8211; Unique sculptures made of thousands of canned goods are taking over a new downtown location for the 21st annual AIA Honolulu CANstruction competition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Held inside the Central Pacific Bank atrium, the event features eight teams of local architects and designers testing their skills by building massive 3-D sculptures entirely out of canned food.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Honoring AIA Hawaii\u2019s 100th anniversary, this year\u2019s theme, \u201cCANtennial: Designs of the Decades,\u201d challenges teams to recreate iconic moments from each era, organizers said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">All cans will be donated to the Hawaii Foodbank. The public can view the sculptures and vote for the People\u2019s Choice Award now through Friday, Sept. 18. Each $1 vote serves as a direct donation to the food bank.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Over its 21-year history, the competition has collected 787,005 pounds of canned goods and raised more than $110,000 for the food bank.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">To view the competing teams or cast a vote, visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aiahonolulu.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.aiahonolulu.org\/\">www.aiahonolulu.org<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 Hawaii News Now.
