{"id":848901,"date":"2026-09-15T19:06:16","date_gmt":"2026-09-15T19:06:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/848901\/"},"modified":"2026-09-15T19:06:16","modified_gmt":"2026-09-15T19:06:16","slug":"trump-nominates-former-pasco-mayor-to-be-us-attorney-for-western-district-of-washington","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us\/848901\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump nominates former Pasco mayor to be US Attorney for Western District of Washington"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Donald Trump has nominated Simon Serrano of Washington state to be United States Attorney for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-wdwa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Western District of Washington<\/a> for a four-year term.<\/p>\n<p>Serraro had previously been the Interim US Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to that position, he was appointed as Special Attorney to the Attorney General and the First Assistant for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-edwa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Eastern District of Washington<\/a>.  Serrano was appointed to the position by Attorney General Pam Bondi.<\/p>\n<p>Before that appointment, he was the mayor of Pasco.<\/p>\n<p>According to the U.S. Attorney&#8217;s Office for the Eastern District of Washington:<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, Serraro co-founded the Silent Majority Foundation, a nonprofit organization to fight for civil liberties. <\/p>\n<p>From 2015 to 2018, he worked as an attorney for the Department of Energy, focusing on environmental law. <\/p>\n<p>From 2018 to 2021, Serraro worked at Energy Northwest, including working on permitting small modular nuclear reactors.<\/p>\n<p>Federal judges appointed longtime prosecutor Roger Rogoff to serve as U.S. attorney in Seattle, but <a href=\"https:\/\/komonews.com\/news\/local\/trump-fires-newly-appointed-us-attorney-in-seattle-less-than-an-hour-after-swearing-in-king-county-superior-court-judge-western-washington-roger-rogoff\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">President Donald Trump fired him less than an hour after he was sworn in<\/a> on July 15. <\/p>\n<p>Rogoff, a longtime federal prosecutor, former King County Superior Court judge and former director of Washington&#8217;s Office of Independent Investigations, said he was dismissed in an email titled &#8220;A Message From the President.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It basically said, &#8216;I&#8217;m informing you that pursuant to his authority, President Trump is hereby removing you from the office of the United States attorney,'&#8221; Rogoff said.<\/p>\n<p>When KOMO News asked the Department of Justice why Rogoff was removed, the agency pointed to a post on X from Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;District court judges can appoint a temporary U.S. attorney, and POTUS can fire them. WDWA judges abandoned the time-honored process of consultation with the administration so that the selected U.S. attorney is qualified to serve in the administration.
