Leukaemia Care \/ SWNS<\/p>\n<p>Her GP arranged a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/02\/health\/routine-blood-test-reveals-cancer-diagnosis-before-symptoms\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">blood test<\/a> and hours later she was told she had either <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/09\/05\/us-news\/nearly-6k-lives-lost-to-9-11-related-cancer-over-57k-others-diagnosed\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">lymphoma<\/a> or leukemia.<\/p>\n<p>Megan underwent a bone marrow biopsy which confirmed acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).<\/p>\n<p>Megan said: \u201cIt was just a whirlwind.<\/p>\n<p>Megan is pictured in a hospital. Leukaemia Care \/ SWNS<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d gone from just going to the GP for something completely different to being diagnosed with leukemia within days.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve still got quite a lot of treatment to go, but I\u2019m in remission, which is obviously really good.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI felt fit and healthy. You just don\u2019t expect it to happen to you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Megan, who is sharing her story during Blood Cancer Awareness Month, initially put her <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/22\/health\/why-youre-still-exhausted-after-8-hours-of-sleep-according-to-an-expert\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">tiredness<\/a> down to slightly increased working hours.<\/p>\n<p>After her blood test at the GP, she had a 20-minute-long <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/01\/09\/health\/are-you-blowing-your-nose-wrong-it-could-be-dangerous\/#!\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">nosebleed<\/a> \u2013 another sign of ALL.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tStart your day with all you need to know\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"inline-module__cta\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMorning Report delivers the latest news, videos, photos and more.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tThanks for signing up!\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Following her hospital admission, a consultant said she needed further tests to determine if she had lymphoma \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/09\/07\/tech\/artificial-intelligence-could-help-cure-cancer\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">cancer<\/a> in the lymphatic system \u2013 or leukemia \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/24\/health\/student-diagnosed-with-blood-cancer-after-doctors-blamed-symptoms-on-anxiety\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">cancer in the blood<\/a> and bone marrow.<\/p>\n<p>Three days later she was diagnosed with leukemia.<\/p>\n<p>She said: \u201cIt was very hard to process because it all happened so quickly.<\/p>\n<p>Megan, who is sharing her story during Blood Cancer Awareness Month, initially put her tiredness down to slightly increased working hours. Leukaemia Care \/ SWNS<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey couldn\u2019t delay treatment, so they had to start me on <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/04\/29\/health\/this-alternative-to-chemo-and-surgery-could-successfully-treat-cancer-study\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">chemotherapy<\/a> straight away.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since her diagnosis in February, Megan has undergone two five-week cycles of chemotherapy.<\/p>\n<p>A bone marrow biopsy following her second cycle showed no evidence of leukemia, meaning Megan is currently in remission and does not need a stem cell transplant.<\/p>\n<p>Since her diagnosis in February, Megan has undergone two five-week cycles of chemotherapy. Leukaemia Care \/ SWNS<\/p>\n<p>She still has further chemotherapy ahead, including additional rounds of treatment designed to reduce the risk of the disease returning.<\/p>\n<p>At 28, she feels caught between the services aimed at teenagers and young adults and the predominantly older patients she sees on the hematology ward.<\/p>\n<p>She said: \u201cI feel like I\u2019m in a weird age bracket. I\u2019m too old for some of the teenage cancer support, but I\u2019m also one of the youngest people on the hematology ward.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At 28, Megan feels caught between the services aimed at teenagers and young adults and the predominantly older patients she sees on the hematology ward. She has returned to her pole fitness studio for the first time since her diagnosis.<\/p>\n<p>And she has just got engaged \u2013 after several months dominated by hospital appointments and chemotherapy.<\/p>\n<p>She said: \u201cI\u2019d love to get back to pole fitness properly and get back to work.<\/p>\n<p>Megan\u2019s now starting to get back to the life she enjoyed before her diagnosis. But hopefully once all this is over, I\u2019ll get back to it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now Megan is raising awareness of the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/05\/26\/health\/beware-these-6-common-cancer-symptoms-for-people-under-50\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">symptoms of leukemia<\/a> as it was only because she mentioned the changes during an appointment for something completely unrelated that a blood test was carried out.<\/p>\n<p>She added: \u201cI probably wouldn\u2019t have thought anything of it if people at work hadn\u2019t said I should mention it while at the GP. But I\u2019m really glad I did.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now Megan is raising awareness of the symptoms of leukemia as it was only because she mentioned the changes during an appointment for something completely unrelated that a blood test was carried out.
