If Davis were younger and injuries weren’t such a concern, the Celtics might talk themselves into taking a swing on the big man. The thing is, though, we’re talking about a player who has played a combined 29 games since the Lakers traded him to the Mavericks in January 2025 as part of the Luka Don\u010di\u0107 deal. Between that and the extension he’s due for, fit doesn’t matter. <\/p>\n
New York letting Robinson slip through its fingers in free agency did Boston a favor<\/a> in more ways than one. His injury history is a concern, but not to the extent of AD’s. Mitch’s three-year, $47.4 million contract is way more manageable, too, as Davis will be eligible to sign a four-year deal worth up to $275 million if he declines his $62.8 million player option next offseason. <\/p>\n No thanks. <\/p>\n Celtics have no need to chase after Anthony Davis<\/p>\n We just watched Robinson help New York win a championship, which Davis did in Los Angeles, but that was in 2020. <\/p>\n Davis is past his prime, and though we saw him still be a two-way force this past season during a December stretch with the Mavericks, those were just flashes. He hasn’t been able to play at that level consistently because of injury setbacks. He may be healthy now with training camp around the corner, but with him, you’re always holding your breath when he’s on the floor.<\/p>\n Celtics fans may be doing the same with Robinson this season, which is understandable, since he played a combined 48 games in 2023-24 and 2024-25, but he’s coming off a season in which he played 60 regular-season games. The Knicks managed his minutes so he’d be in the best shape possible for the postseason. He underwent hand surgery before the NBA Finals, but it was for an off-court matter and didn’t cause him to miss a game in the series. <\/p>\n It sounds wild because of AD’s resume, but at this point, Robinson can be a more effective player<\/a> than Davis, and the same goes for Queta, because their odds of staying healthy are higher. And they don’t come with the price tag that he would, which matters now more than ever. <\/p>\n Boston is better off staying away from Davis trade discussions and sticking with Robinson and Queta, and even Paul George, who would be on the move again in an AD deal. <\/p>\n
