GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich. (WPBN\/WGTU) \u2014 The pilot of the military plane that crashed and triggered an evacuation order near County Road 633 and Jeffrey Place in Grand Traverse County is in stable condition, state police say.<\/p>\n
Michigan State Police said the crash caused a hazardous chemical spill, which triggered the evacuation order for all businesses and properties within a one-mile radius of the crash.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
A shelter for those affected, Grand Traverse County Emergency Management said, has been set up at Kensington Church at 6880 Secor Road.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Michigan State Police said the Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs has confirmed the crash involves an F-16 from Texas.<\/p>\n
The military plane was reportedly on a routine training mission from the Air National Guard’s Combat Readiness Training Center in Alpena when it crashed. <\/p>\n
According to state police, the pilot is in stable condition at a local hospital.<\/p>\n
No other injuries have been reported.<\/p>\n
Grand Traverse County Emergency Management posted on social media about the evacuation order for areas near the plane crash and that remains in effect Thursday evening. <\/p>\n
Grand Traverse 911 said residents along County Road 633 from Jeffry Place to Blair Townhall Road should evacuate.<\/p>\n
The order applies only to people in the indicated area. Traffic remains shut down near the crash scene, and drivers should avoid the area.<\/p>\n
