\n\tMaroon 5<\/a> calls up 1 billion views on YouTube with \u201cPayphone,\u201d the pop-rock band\u2019s collaboration with rapper Wiz Khalifa<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tReleased back in April 2012 with an official music video directed by Samuel Bayer, \u201cPayphone\u201d (via A&M\/Octone Records) becomes Maroon 5\u2019s sixth entry into the streaming giant\u2019s Billion Views Club.<\/p>\n

\n\tA payphone was already a thing of the past when Maroon 5 dropped the single, but that didn\u2019t stop it from ringing up new sales records.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe cinematic video finds Levine in a miserable mood. At the top, he sings: \u201cI\u2019m at a payphone trying to call home, all of my change I spent on you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tMisery loves company, as we know. In its opening week, \u201cPayphone\u201d shifted some 493,000 digital downloads<\/a> \u2014 remember them? \u2014 for a No. 3 entry on the Billboard Hot 100, and a No. 1 start on the Digital Songs chart. That hot opening was, for its time, the best digital sales frame by a group, bettering the 465,000 sold by the Black Eyed Peas\u2019\u00a0\u201cBoom Boom Pow\u201d from three years earlier.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cPayphone\u201d got its premiere on that year on NBC\u2019s The Voice, where Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine had a second gig as a coach. The song was housed on the band\u2019s fourth studio album, Overexposed, which was executive produced by Max Martin, with additional cuts produced by OneRepublic\u2019s Ryan Tedder. Overexposed peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. Shellback and Benny Blanco produced \u201cPayphone,\u201d which also reached No. 2 on the national singles chart, one of the band\u2019s 15 top 10 hits.<\/p>\n

\n\tMaroon 5 has also enjoyed entry into YouTube\u2019s Billion Views Club with \u201cSugar,\u201d \u201cMemories,\u201d \u201cOne More Night,\u201d \u201cGirls Like You (Volume 2),\u201d and \u201cGirls Like You.\u201d The band\u2019s eighth and most recent album, Love Is Like, dropped in 2025.<\/p>\n
