Truck crashes into Seaside house; one hospitalized<\/p>\n

People attending the Wheels and Waves Car Show in Seaside were jolted by a loud crash shortly before 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 18. <\/p>\n
They quickly moved in the direction of the sound \u2014 some swiftly walking, others jogging \u2014 up to Holladay Drive.<\/p>\n
About 40 people became unwitting witnesses to what had caused the boom when they came upon a white Chevy Silverado that had crashed into a house.<\/p>\n
Seaside resident Mike Mantia, who was participating in the Wheels and Waves car show, walked up to view the incident.<\/p>\n
\u201cI heard a car goin\u2019 way over the speed limit and just flying and then I turned and I saw him go flying by and then \u2014 bam! \u2026 I know he was going way over the speed limit.\u201d <\/p>\n
A.J. Wilson and Vicki Brooks were in the opposite lane when the truck seemed to lose control.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were heading northbound and we saw him hit the curb just a little ways down there and go clear up onto the sidewalk and came off \u2014 and he was going straight for us,\u201d said Wilson. \u201cHe got right to the center line and I hit my horn and he pulled back and hit this little jump here and hit air and went through the little corner fence where you\u2019re standing and into the house.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were heading northbound and he was heading southbound at least 65 to 70, at least \u2014 at least. That\u2019s all we know.\u201d <\/p>\n
Wilson, who went to check on the other driver when the white pick up came to a rest after crashing through the house, said to an officer on scene that the driver, \u201che was moaning to them and talking a little bit.\u201d <\/p>\n
The couple said they had gotten into their black Honda Accord in the first place to \u201ctake a quick look at the car show.\u201d Shaking his head, Wilson said, \u201cI think we\u2019ll go home now.\u201d <\/p>\n
Seaside Police Department vehicles, Seaside Fire and Rescue, Gearhart Police, Pacific Power and an Oregon State Trooper were on the scene.<\/p>\n
David Rankin, division chief of operations and training at Seaside Fire and Rescue, said that dispatch received a call at 3 p.m.<\/p>\n
Shortly after, the driver was removed from the vehicle and taken to the hospital.<\/p>\n
The condition of the driver was not known at press time.<\/p>\n
Rankin said that they are \u201cstill trying to put the pieces together,\u201d but that the single occupant of the truck \u201cfor some reason failed to navigate or negotiate this curve and went into this house which is unoccupied.\u201d <\/p>\n
In an interview about 40 minutes after the crash occurred, Rankin said the police had made another sweep, \u201cmaking sure no one else was in there.\u201d Now, they were \u201ctrying to figure out a plan for the structural stability of the house before we move the car.\u201d <\/p>\n
