Galen, N.Y. \u2014 Wayne County Public Health is warning residents of a potential measles exposure at a local business earlier this month.<\/p>\n
Health officials said the potential exposure occurred at Pine Creek Feed and Seed in Galen from Sept. 9-11. Anyone who was there during that period and is not immune to measles could be at risk of developing the illness.<\/p>\n
Those who were potentially exposed should monitor for symptoms, which typically develop 10 to 12 days after exposure but can appear anywhere from seven to 21 days later. Symptoms can include a high fever, cough, red eyes and a rash.<\/p>\n
Anyone who develops symptoms is urged to contact a health care provider and call ahead before visiting a doctor’s office, urgent care or emergency department to avoid potentially exposing others.<\/p>\n

The Wayne County alert comes amid a series of potential measles exposures across the Rochester region. Monroe County announced Thursday<\/a> that people with measles traveled through the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport Sept. 8 and Sept. 13. Other recent exposures have been reported at Rochester’s train station<\/a> and Strong Memorial Hospital’s emergency department<\/a>.<\/p>\n Measles activity has also been reported elsewhere in the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier.
