\n\tChad Gilbert<\/a>, a founding member and guitarist for New Found Glory<\/a>, has died. He was 45.<\/p>\n

\n\tGilbert\u2019s death was announced on social media<\/a> Sunday (Sept. 20) by the pop-punk band and his wife, Lisa Cimorelli, six months after the musician revealed that he was battling cancer.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cOn the morning of September 20th, Chad Everett Gilbert passed away peacefully in his sleep,\u201d the band wrote<\/a>. \u201cHe left this world surrounded by friends and family and took his final breaths with his wife and mother by his side, just as he wished.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Florida group continued, \u201cWe are devastated and shocked by how quickly he left us, yet so grateful for how peacefully and smoothly he went. The amount of visitors that crowded the hospital lobby at a moment\u2019s notice is a testament to how beloved and cherished Chad was, and always will be. He was a legendary musician, but his favorite accomplishment was being a husband and father. His biggest dreams came true.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe message was signed by New Found Glory members Jordan Pundik, Ian Grushka, Cyrus Bolooki, and touring guitarist Dan O\u2019Connor, along with Gilbert\u2019s wife, Cimorelli.<\/p>\n

\n\tGilbert had been open with fans about his health struggles in recent years. In late March, he shared a series of photos<\/a> from his hospital bed while updating fans on his recovery from brain cancer surgery. The emergency procedure came after he struggled to control movement in his left hand during a show in Nashville earlier that year.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe surgery followed another major health scare several years earlier. In December 2021, Cimorelli described finding her husband \u201cunresponsive\u201d<\/a> in their bed, initially believing he was sick or simply sleeping late. After being rushed to the hospital, Gilbert was diagnosed with a \u201crare tumor called a pheochromocytoma,\u201d which grows on the adrenal gland and secretes hormones that drive your blood pressure up while eating away at your blood sugar.<\/p>\n

\n\tGilbert later revealed that the cancer had spread to his spine and lungs. In August 2025, he told fans he was undergoing additional treatment after doctors discovered a \u201csmall spot\u201d on his back.<\/p>\n

\n\tHis death comes as New Found Glory marks nearly three decades together. The band released its 11th studio album<\/a>, Listen Up!, in February. Following the album\u2019s release, the group hit the road for an extensive run of shows.<\/p>\n

\n\tNew Found Glory formed in 1997 in Coral Springs, Florida, with vocalist Pundik, Gilbert on guitar, bassist Grushka and drummer Bolooki.<\/p>\n

\n\tReflecting on Gilbert\u2019s contribution to the band, New Found Glory wrote Sunday, \u201cChad\u2019s guitar playing, songwriting, humor, and relentless drive helped shape New Found Glory for nearly three decades.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe band added, \u201cThrough more than a dozen albums, endless tours around the world, and more accolades than we ever could have imagined, Chad challenged all of us to grow as musicians, performers, and human beings. While we are devastated to lose him, we are so grateful for the incredible life he lived, the memories we shared, and the brotherhood we had. His influence will always be part of New Found Glory and his spirit will be felt on every stage we stand on, with every note we play.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFollowing Gilbert\u2019s death, members of the rock community took to social media to remember their friend and longtime peer.<\/p>\n

\n\tBlink-182\u2019s Mark Hoppus, who has spoken publicly about his own battle with cancer, remembered Gilbert as a deeply positive presence. On Instagram<\/a>, Hoppus called him \u201cthe best friend to every person he met\u201d and \u201cthe most positive and creative force in any room he walked into.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHoppus also reflected on Gilbert\u2019s battle with cancer, writing that he \u201cfought his sickness with the soul of a joyous, courageous warrior.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThese past years he fought his sickness with the soul of a joyous, courageous warrior. With dignity, love, and gratitude,\u201d Hoppus wrote. \u201cHe never complained once, only kept saying how lucky he was. For everything. Today we lost a good one, and the world won\u2019t be the same. Rest easy now, my friend. And thank you for just. Being. You\u2019ll be sorely missed by more people than you could ever imagine. See you on the other side.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Offspring also shared a tribute on Instagram<\/a>, writing, \u201cToday, the world lost a legend. RIP Chad.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tYellowcard\u2019s William Ryan Key remembered Gilbert as a friend who supported him during a difficult period in his career. \u201cChad was the kind of friend most people don\u2019t get to have in a lifetime,\u201d Key wrote on Instagram<\/a>. \u201cI owe so much to him for encouraging me to keep going back in 2017 when Yellowcard broke up.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBayside\u2019s Anthony Raneri also mourned Gilbert, recalling the energy and friendship he brought into their lives. \u201cToday I say goodbye to one of my best friends. I don\u2019t know what my life is going to look like without him. Without the energy and the fun that he brought to every room and every day,\u201d Raneri wrote on Instagram<\/a>.<\/p>\n
