The Cowboys didn\u2019t really need extra buzz for their home opener against the Commanders on Sunday. Owner Jerry Jones decided to create some, anyway.<\/p>\n
Jones invited Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to attend the game against the Commanders.<\/p>\n
Bezos owns the Washington Post. So he was there to support the hometown team, right?<\/p>\n
\u201cOne, I really want the Cowboys to win today<\/a>,\u201d Bezos said, via Chris Amaya of the Dallas Morning News. \u201cSecond is field energy here. It\u2019s such great energy here. There\u2019s something special about this stadium . . . about this team, and of course, something special about Jerry. It\u2019s great to be his guest.\u201d<\/p>\n For Jones\u2019s part, he praised Bezos before Sunday\u2019s game.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat he is, is a part of what we all are proud of, and that\u2019s being a part of America,\u201d Jones said. \u201cIt\u2019s quite a privilege<\/a>. Like I said, I pulled out all the stops to try and give us some energy to win this game today.\u201d<\/p>\n It\u2019s highly unlikely that the extra energy from Bezos\u2019s presence made a difference. The bigger question is whether Jerry may be thinking about peeling off a slice of his equity in the team and selling it to Bezos.<\/p>\n Bezos has long been linked to potential NFL ownership. When the Commanders and Seahawks were for sale, however, he didn\u2019t submit a bid. He could buy a piece of the Cowboys (they haven\u2019t ruled out<\/a> selling a minority stake) and wait for an opportunity to buy all (or most) of another team that is put on the market.<\/p>\n
