ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) \u2014 Over four tons of food from the Biltmore Championship Asheville will provide about 8,000 meals for people across western North Carolina instead of going to waste.<\/p>\n

Food Connection<\/a>, an Asheville-based nonprofit that has been around for 11 years, was selected as the official food rescue partner for the PGA Tour event.<\/p>\n

The organization rescued more than 8,000 pounds of prepared food and ingredients that were not served during the tournament. The food is being distributed to people in Buncombe and Henderson counties, including through Food Connection\u2019s free food truck.<\/p>\n

Food Connection works with restaurants, caterers and events to rescue food that is still safe to eat but would otherwise be thrown away. The nonprofit distributes free meals every week at locations across the mountains.<\/p>\n

This week, food rescued from the Biltmore Championship Asheville will be among the food distributed at its regular stops.<\/p>\n

Food Connection\u2019s weekly distribution schedule is:<\/p>\n

Tuesday at 3 p.m. \u2014 Fairview Food Lion, 1350 Charlotte Highway, FairviewWednesday at 5 p.m. \u2014 Bell United Methodist Church, 17 Mayrand Road, LeicesterThursday at 3 p.m. \u2014 Francis Asbury United Methodist Church, 725 Asbury Road, CandlerFriday at 11 a.m. \u2014 Victory Fellowship Worship Center, 450 Aiken Road, WeavervilleSaturday at 10 a.m. \u2014 ArtSpace Charter School, 2030 U.S. Highway 70, Swannanoa<\/p>\n

Food Connection says the meals are available to anyone who needs them, with no questions asked.<\/p>\n
