\n\tAnna Faris<\/a> and Regina Hall<\/a> are scaring up a reunion. The stars will return as Cindy and Brenda for the next installment of the \u201cScary Movie<\/a>\u201d franchise. Marlon Wayans confirmed the news in a post on his Instagram<\/a>, sharing a photo of the duo from the first film.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWe can\u2019t wait to bring Brenda and Cindy back to life and be reunited with our great friends Keenen, Shawn and Marlon \u2014 three men we\u2019d literally die for (in Brenda\u2019s case, again),\u201d Faris and Hall said in a statement about their return.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe reboot from the Wayans brothers is coming to theaters on June 12, 2026. The brothers are reuniting for the first time in 18 years to write an original script for the restart of the horror parody franchise, writing and producing the movie alongside Rick Alvarez. Jonathan Glickman, Alexandra Loewy and Thomas Zadra are executive producers.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cScary Movie\u201d (2000) was one of the highest-grossing R-rated horror movies of all time. The film opened at $42.5 million at the box office, marking the biggest debut for an R-rated horror movie and a Black director at that time. The \u201cScary Movie\u201d film franchise was developed by Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans and Keenen Ivory Wayans.<\/p>\n

\n\tKeenen Ivory Wayans wrote and directed the first two films. Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans wrote and starred in the first two films. This will be the sixth film in the franchise.<\/p>\n

\n\tMiramax is the studio behind the series, which Paramount Pictures is releasing worldwide. \u201cScary Movie\u201d is part of Paramount\u2019s first look deal with Miramax.<\/p>\n

\n\tMarlon Wayans previously\u00a0spoke out<\/a>\u00a0regarding Harvey Weinstein\u2019s role in \u201cstealing\u201d the franchise from his family during a September appearance on the \u201cClub Shay Shay\u201d podcast, citing a \u201ccrappy\u201d deal with Miramax for the first film as the foundation for troubles to come. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt was so toxic,\u201d Marlon Wayans told Variety<\/a> earlier this year. \u201cThe way the Weinsteins handled the business of \u2018Scary Movie,\u2019 I could write a \u2018Scary Movie\u2019 about it. We probably should have sued.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWhen Jonathan Glickman took over as head of\u00a0Miramax<\/a>\u00a0a year ago, the studio was struggling to reboot the franchise. Before Glickman took the reins, the studio was developing a reboot of \u201cScary Movie\u201d independently from the Wayans brothers \u2014 though they did ask Marlon Wayans if he would shoot a cameo. He wasn\u2019t interested. \u201cThe only way that I\u2019m a part of it is if me and my family are delivering it, because this is our baby,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\n\tFor his part, Glickman didn\u2019t like the initial script, believing it lacked the right \u201cflavor.\u201d He asked to meet with the Wayans family to hear their pitch for the franchise\u2019s future. He came away determined to make a deal. To sweeten the offer, he agreed to give the brothers more equity in the movies.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cYou need to have some connective tissue with the original property,\u201d Glickman told Variety <\/a>about the deal. \u201cIt gives legitimacy to a project so it doesn\u2019t seem like just a cash grab.\u201d<\/p>\n
