U.S. equity futures were mixed early Tuesday following a rally driven by stocks tied to artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n
S&P 500 futures<\/a> were down 0.08% at 5:30 a.m. ET, while Nasdaq-100 futures<\/a> fell 0.05%. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures rose 0.04%.<\/p>\n U.S. futures trimmed losses and European stocks turned from negative to positive after Japanese wire service Kyodo claimed Iran had offered to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days, driving crude oil prices lower<\/a>. The report cited a single source and has not been independently verified by CNBC.<\/p>\n On Monday, a jump in AI-related names lifted the major US averages. The S&P 500<\/a> climbed 1.5% to post its best day since Aug. 4, while the Nasdaq Composite<\/a> jumped 2.3% for its first closing record since June. The Dow Industrials<\/a> rose 366 points, or 0.7%.<\/p>\n Tech heavy hitters carried the rally, with Meta Platforms<\/a> surging more than 11%. Chipmakers Intel<\/a> and Advanced Micro Devices<\/a> surged 12% and roughly 10%, with AMD touching a $1 trillion<\/a> market cap. Nvidia<\/a> gained 2%, and fiber optic giant Corning<\/a> advanced almost 6%.<\/p>\n A decline in oil prices fueled the stock market’s gains, with West Texas Intermediate<\/a> crude futures dropping 4.5% to $95.78 a barrel, while international Brent<\/a> settled more than 3% lower at $100.34 per barrel.<\/p>\n Treasury yields also pulled back, with the 10-year Treasury<\/a> note yield sliding more than 4 basis points to 4.951%. Even prior to the Federal Reserve’s move to hike its key interest rate by a quarter point last week, Treasury yields have been trending higher as the economy contends with rising debt, elevated oil prices and stubborn inflation.<\/p>\n Traders’ attention will turn to this week’s summit in Washington, DC between President Donald Trump<\/a> and Chinese leader Xi Jinping<\/a>. Artificial intelligence, the Iran war, tariffs and rare earth metals are expected to be among the key topics covered in the meeting.
