Javier Bardem<\/a> has backed calls for Pink to be removed from her role as a UNICEF ambassador, following comments she made about Macklemore\u2019s pro-Palestine speech. <\/p>\n Following his performance at the MetLife Stadium, the pop star shared a post that said it was \u201cawful\u201d for Jewish fans to be \u201cambushed\u201d by the rapper\u2019s \u201canti-Israel propaganda\u201d, after he said \u201cFree Palestine\u201d on stage. <\/p>\n After facing backlash for sharing the post, Pink also shared memes that included captions such as \u201cBeing liked by everyone is a clown\u2019s job.\u201d<\/p>\n Subsequently, Bardem, who is a strong supporter of Palestine<\/a>, has taken to his social media to share a petition for the \u2018Who Knew\u2019 singer to be stripped of her UNICEF ambassador status, following an online campaign. <\/p>\n Taking to his Instagram Stories on September 21st, he shared a post which highlighted the petition launched on Change.org, calling for the singer to be removed from her position (via Reuters<\/a>). <\/p>\n The petition says that Pink\u2019s comments were a \u201cdisheartening display of divisiveness and hatred\u201d, before going on to explain why this contradicts the role of a UNICEF ambassador. <\/p>\n \u201cWe must hold UNICEF Ambassadors to the highest standards of neutrality and compassion. Palestinian children, like all children affected by genocide, deserve ambassadors who unequivocally extend support and empathy towards their plight,\u201d the petition added, describing Pink\u2019s views as \u201cincompatible\u201d. <\/p>\n The statement then urges leadership within UNICEF to \u201chold its ambassadors accountable, uphold its strict standards of humanitarian neutrality, and remove Pink from her official role. \u201c<\/p>\n At the time of writing, the petition has received almost 165,000 signatures, but UNICEF has not yet publicly responded to the campaign. <\/p>\n Pink was acknowledged by Macklemore during his statement on the issue last week,<\/a> saying that like he and Sheeran, she is \u201cnot a victim\u201d in the situation. <\/p>\n \u201cWe have careers, money, opportunities, safety and audiences around the world. Whatever consequences any of us face for what we say, we get to go home to our families,\u201d the rapper noted in his Instagram post, which has received almost eight million likes.\u00a0<\/p>\n During his first show back since the controversy over the weekend, Sheeran gave a lengthy speech to his crowd in Philadelphia about the \u201cmistakes\u201d he had made in handling the situation. \u201cI have tried in my career to not be a political commentator at any time, because I want my shows to be about unity, not division, and humanity, not politics. But this is a humanitarian issue, and I can\u2019t hide how I feel about it anymore,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n The \u2018Shape of You\u2019 singer admitted that he is speaking to \u201cpeople across the spectrum\u201d to understand how to make a \u201ccontribution that helps victims of these terrible times, and listening and learning, because I do not know enough<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n Despite this, Sheeran had previously said he was \u201cnot complicit\u201d in the situation when he responded to the Macklemore row in a bullet-pointed Instagram statement<\/a> last week, saying, \u201cMacklemore coming off tour was the promoter\u2019s decision, it was not mine. Macklemore\u2019s contract for the tour was with the promoter, not me.\u201d<\/p>\n Pink responded to her side of the situation in an Instagram post on September 11th, explaining her initial repost by saying, \u201cA repost isn\u2019t a statement, and a meme isn\u2019t a spine. Social media makes all of us cheap and fast, and we all know it. But I\u2019d rather be disagreed with for what I actually said than hated for what anybody else wrote, so let me say it.\u201d<\/p>\n She also cited her role as a UNICEF ambassador within her lengthy caption, adding, \u201cI\u2019ve spent a decade as a UNICEF ambassador for kids who didn\u2019t choose the country or the war they were born into, and I have grieved every one of them, on both sides of that fence.
