The WTA 500 event in Singapore<\/a> has perhaps a relatively weak field (on paper) for an event of this level, with only one Top 10 player in the draw, but it should still be a very interesting week of tennis, with several lower ranked players fancying their chances to get some big points and climb up the rankings here, or maybe even win a significant title. Day 3 features some very tasty matchups, including this year\u2019s two French Open<\/a> finalists taking the stage.<\/p>\n

\nElise Mertens vs Barbora Krejcikova<\/p>\n

Head-to-head: Mertens 1-0 Krejcikova<\/p>\n

Mertens won an extremely close three setter when the pair faced earlier this year at the United Cup, and a similarly close match could well happen here. Krejcikova had a terrible summer, but her talent and ability are undeniable and she will be looking to bounce back here and prove that she is way better than her current ranking of #44 suggests.

Alycia Parks vs Leylah Fernandez<\/p>\n

Head-to-head: Parks 2-1 Fernandez<\/p>\n

Parks has actually won both of their Slam meetings, including this year in Australia, but Fernandez has established herself as a solid Top 50 player and clearly the better of the two in general, even if far from what was expected a few years ago. Under normal circumstances, the Canadian should have the slight edge here.

Oleksandra Oliynykova vs Maja Chwalinska<\/p>\n

Head-to-head: Chwalinska 1-0 Oliynykova<\/p>\n

It has been a very difficult few months for Chwalinska after her incredible run to the French Open final, with her first round win here in Singapore being only her second match win since. That said, this week might provide a good opportunity to get out of that prolonged slump and she certainly seems to have the edge in this matchup.

Head-to-head: Andreeva 1-0 Sasnovich<\/p>\n

Given the field, Andreeva is the clear favorite to win this event, even if she hasn\u2019t quite been at her best after winning her maiden Slam title at Roland Garros. Against an opponent ranked #132, she should advance with relative ease here.
