Santa Clara County is opening a massive, 10-story health center next week in San Jose that\u2019s set to be the largest in the county health system, offering a slate of services to patients regardless of health insurance status.<\/p>\n

The new Valley Health Center San Jos\u00e9-Campbell is located on the border of San Jose and Campbell, at 1410 S Bascom Ave, and is part of a larger development on the former site of the Dick\u2019s Center and famed Zorba the Greek restaurant<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The health center replaces and expands services at two San Jose locations into a single location \u2013 a 230,000 square-foot medical office building with over 200 exam rooms.<\/p>\n

The site sits next to a large apartment complex and a VTA light rail station. That choice of location was part of an intentional move to ensure ease of access to the center, according to county officials. They say the location is within walking distance of more than 11,000 households and a 10-minute drive for more than 90,000 people.<\/p>\n

The project is a \u201ccritical part of the county\u2019s commitment to ensure that healthcare reaches every community in our county,\u201d said Santa Clara County Board of Supervisor Susan Ellenberg, whose district includes the site. \u201cHealthcare must meet people where they are, and this Valley Health Center San Jose-Campbell delivers on that promise.\u201d<\/p>\n

The clinic opens September 28 and will include urgent care, primary care, pharmacy, OB-GYN, imaging and lab services among others.<\/p>\n

The facility will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. While hours vary from day to day, adult and pediatric urgent care will be open until 9:30 p.m. on weekdays and 5:00 p.m. on weekends. A full list of hours and services is available at SCVH.org\/sjc<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The opening of the project comes after the county made significant cuts in spending and jobs in the county healthcare system<\/a>, in response to cuts to Medicaid in the Trump administration\u2019s landmark spending bill \u2014 which are expected to lead to over two million Californians losing their insurance.<\/p>\n

Including the upcoming center, the county health system runs four hospitals and 15 health centers across the county. Under state law, the county is mandated to ensure that those without insurance receive care.\u00a0County officials expect additional demand on the public health system as a result of the Medicaid cuts.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery person in our community, every single person, deserves the opportunity to get the care they need when they need it and where they need it,\u201d said County Executive James Williams. \u201cWe are proud to be a public healthcare system that is there for people when they need us, even in challenging times, and even in the face of this federal government.\u201d<\/p>\n

Construction on the project began in Dec. 2022, prior to the cuts last year. The county approved the purchase of the medical office early this year<\/a>, after originally planning to lease the property.
