We\u2019re looking for an emerging arts writer from Dazed Club to interview Swiss artist Ren\u00e9e Levi ahead of her new commission, September, at the Hayward Gallery.<\/p>\n
Opening on 23 September, September is a large-scale outdoor artwork that translates Levi\u2019s painterly, gestural style onto the Hayward Gallery\u2019s iconic brutalist architecture. It marks Levi\u2019s first large-scale public commission in the UK and is co-commissioned by the Hayward Gallery and Audemars Piguet Contemporary.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The commission marks a collaboration between Audemars Piguet Contemporary and the Hayward Gallery, bringing together two organisations committed to supporting new approaches within contemporary art. For Audemars Piguet Contemporary, the project reflects its focus on giving artists the space to push their practices into unexpected territory. Having followed Levi\u2019s work for years, the organisation has worked closely with the Hayward Gallery to push forward a project that treats the building\u2019s iconic surface as part of the artwork. \u201cLevi approaches the Hayward Gallery\u2019s exterior as more than a backdrop, responding to its rhythm, materiality and scale,\u201d says Audrey Teichmann, Curator at Audemars Piguet Contemporary.<\/p>\n
The selected writer will be commissioned to interview Ren\u00e9e Levi, with the resulting Q&A published on Dazed Digital.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The interview will be part of a wider Dazed Club collaboration with Audemars Piguet Contemporary, which will continue with an exclusive Dazed Club event at Southbank Centre\u2019s St Paul\u2019s Pavilion on 12 October. The event will bring together Dazed Clubbers and the wider arts community around Levi\u2019s work and the ideas behind the commission.<\/p>\n
