\n\tAn episode titled \u201cFollow the Anger\u201d is hardly what you\u2019d expect from a lighthearted show such as Ted Lasso<\/a><\/a>, and any fan would believe the reference must involve the series\u2019 resident curmudgeon, Roy Kent, the former Richmond captain turned coach whose signature, quotidian rage comes forth in dialogue seemingly delivered through gritted teeth. His grit is featured this week, of course, in a late-season episode where emotions run high across subplots that deliver a bit of cloak-and-dagger and actual momentum to the show\u2019s central love story as the Lady Greyhounds and their leadership work through a stinging setback and the season gets fully on back on track. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe show\u2019s opening montage has the team members finally giving themselves over to the hokey \u201cBELIEVE\u201d sign posted in the locker room, adding their own lines to it, as in, \u201cBELIEVE and destroy,\u201d or \u201cBELIEVE\u2026and like, have a nice day.\u201d It\u2019s a cute way to echo Assistant Coach Alice\u2019s \u201cYes, and\u2026\u201d experiment last week<\/a>; the montage is intercut with the team landing several breakthrough moments, led by star player Gemma. But it\u2019s all revealed to be a classic emotional bait-and-switch when Gemma suffers a potentially career-ending injury.<\/p>\n

\n\tGemma\u2019s injury is particularly stinging for Alice, whose pent-up emotions have been controlling her for what must feel like a lifetime. That\u2019s because she opted, when asked, not to take Gemma out of play ahead of the fateful matchday moment, hoping she\u2019d score a hat trick after netting back-to-back goals. Alice is the only one who visits Gemma, and learns the young, posh (it turns out) star player is contemplating a move into law and off the pitch.<\/p>\n

\n\tIt\u2019s all very devastating for Alice, whose big, vague reason for all that anger on display is the injury that upended her own football career. She finds herself overwhelmed when the team\u2019s practice goes pear-shaped and winds up bawling alone, only to be walked in on by Ted, whose lone full scene in the episode has him deliver an excellent \u201cthere is crying in football\u201d speech that conjures the image of Lionel Messi sobbing while watching the 1988 weepy drama Beaches. It\u2019s exactly what Alice needs to hear to inspire her next move. If only we all had Ted appear in these dark moments.<\/p>\n

\n\tMeanwhile, Roy and Keeley have a very cute episode as a series of funny (well, not funny-ha-ha) things happen on the way to the Chelsea Legends induction ceremony for the former football star. His stubbornness is met with her frustration again and again as they try to make their way across London after Roy refuses to take a car service. It\u2019s incredible how effective their eventual romantic reconciliation feels after the series of rom-com clich\u00e9s they undergo as they hurtle toward the event \u2014 a coupling that\u2019s been building all season, or really the full four-season run. I suppose it\u2019s a TV romance that\u2019s meant to be, because it\u2019s a true emotional high for the series when Roy sweetly confesses his love for Keeley amid his speech. Or perhaps it\u2019s also a big relief that they, and the show, will finally get to move on from this plot thread.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cFollow the anger,\u201d it turns out, is what\u2019s uttered to Higgins as he investigates why so many stakeholders have been selling off their shares in Richmond. First thought to be related to Gemma\u2019s injury, the affable Director of Football Operations visits a series of leads and dead ends before pub owner Mae sneaks him down to the cellar and nudges him toward \u201cthe anger,\u201d pointing him toward whoever has enough grievance to be plotting something behind the scenes against Richmond. It can only be Rupert, the series\u2019 forgotten but, it seems, ever-present antagonist and Rebecca\u2019s ex. How the character will return, if he even does so in the flesh, is unclear, as the actor who portrayed him, Anthony Head, died in June 2026.<\/p>\n

\n\tThat\u2019s neither here nor there, as the episode concludes with Gemma deciding to stick with football, following Alice\u2019s hard-won work with Rebecca to ensure the team is behind Gemma\u2019s recovery 100 percent: no skimping and no fading attention from management. That comes in the form of treatment from none other than Dr. Erin Beaumont, returning after her barely-there romance with Roy, presumably to stand in as more plot points ricochet off her. But that injustice is for later; for now, the whole team arrives with Alice to visit Gemma in the hospital. This medium-stakes gambit \u2014 thankfully focused on the team \u2014 will drive the season into its final two episodes.
