CADILLAC \u2014 The end is getting close.<\/p>\n
With leaves starting to turn and the days thankfully getting colder, the end of the high school golf season is about two weeks away.<\/p>\n
Cadillac wrapped up its final Big North Conference regular-season tournament with its own invitational Wednesday at the Cadillac Country Club.<\/p>\n
Alpena took first with a 374 while Leland was second at 382 and Petoskey third at 393. Cadillac shot a 430 while the Vikings JV team team carded a 533.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a bittersweet day as we competed in our last BNC regular season match,\u201d Cadillac coach Brandon Bailey said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had seniors that played in their last home match which is always sad. And we had a few players play in their last match of the year.<\/p>\n
\u201cThose players grew so much this year in a very short amount of time and I am very proud of them.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have one more non-conference match before the Big North tournament and we are only a few weeks from regionals.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will continue to work hard to the end of the season.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sophia Outman paced Cadillac with a 12th-place finish and a 99 while Alyssa Hundt shot a 105, Marlee Horstman 111, Brooklyn Stuart 115, Lydia Clough 117 and Tessa Ouwinga 137.<\/p>\n
Lucy Clous led the JV team with a 124 while Marcie Balbuena shot a 133, Emma Charmoli 136, McKynley Swanson 140 and Taylor Warnke 152.<\/p>\n
Cadillac competes in the Harbor Springs Invitational next Wednesday before taking part in the Big North Conference Finals Thursday, Oct. 1 at Spruce Run in Acme.<\/p>\n
PETOSKEY \u2014 Cadillac took fourth overall in the Big North Conference boys tennis finals at Petoskey.<\/p>\n
Traverse City Central wrapped up the league title by taking first in the tournament, as well.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Big North Tournament is the final event of the conference season and the boys played their best,\u201d Cadillac coach Matt Schaefer said.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery flight played up to their seed and Braxton (Heuker) and Wyatt (Strait) each sprung an upset to surpass their seeds.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe played hard, had fun and the day was a great way to cap off the conference season. Now, we turn our attention to a couple of non-conference matches next week to tune up for regionals.\u201d<\/p>\n
Heuker went 1-2 at No. 1 singles as he beat Traverse City West 4-6, 6-1, 10-7; lost to Petoskey 6-0, 6-0; and lost to Alpena 8-3.<\/p>\n
Dominik Mulder went 1-1 at No. 2 as he lost to TC Central 6-3, 6-1 and beat Alpena 8-3.<\/p>\n
Jackson Hill went 1-2 at No. 3 as he beat Alpena 6-4, 6-2; lost to Petoskey 6-1, 6-4; and lost to West 8-1.<\/p>\n
Strait went 2-1 at No. 4 as he beat Alpena 6-2, 6-4; lost to Central 6-0, 6-0; and beat West 8-5.<\/p>\n
Jack Schaefer and Everett Crum went 1-1 at No. 1 doubles as they lost to West 7-5, 6-0 and beat Petoskey 8-3.<\/p>\n
Jack Hampton and Parker Mankiewicz lost to Alpena 6-2, 7-6(5) at No. 2.<\/p>\n
Drake Garner and Reed Johnston went 1-2 at No. 3 as they beat Alpena 6-1, 6-4; lost to West 6-1, 6-3; and lost to Petoskey 8-1.<\/p>\n
Noah Rodriguez and William Hogg went 1-2 at No. 4 as they beat Alpena by default; lost to West 6-1, 6-2; and lost to Petoskey 8-3.<\/p>\n
Cadillac hosts Sparta on Monday.<\/p>\n
BEAL CITY \u2014 Lake City dropped a 32-30, 25-14, 19-25, 20-25, 15-8 decision to Beal City in a Highland Conference volleyball match.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am so proud of these girls\u2026this may have not been the outcome we wanted but it was about each other and being there to support one another,\u201d Lake City coach Amber Besko said. \u201cThese girls are emotionally and physically worn down and even with all of that they showed resilience all night.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey stepped on the court and gave everything they could. I could not be more proud of their efforts. We are so thankful to have the rest of the week off to take time for ourselves and heal.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bella Wetzel had 26 kills and a kill; Evelyn Read nine digs and six kills; Marlee Manick 15 assists; Riely Hogan a kill and a block; Kalli Davis six digs and three aces; Scarlett Park 17 kills and four blocks; Lexi Comp 14 digs; Paige Wilson two kills; Piper McLeod three blocks; Aubree Knuth three aces, 20 digs and 20 assists; and Lola Manick 15 kills.<\/p>\n
GRANT \u2014 Reed City dropped a 27-25, 25-17, 19-25, 25-12 match to Grant in CSAA-Red Division play.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis team is coming along as expected and I am so excited for what this team will bring for the rest of the season,\u201d Reed City coach James Nostrant said. \u201cThere\u2019s so many great moments. We have to learn from our mistakes and put it all together.\u201d<\/p>\n
Molly Carlson had 13 kills and Gracelyn Enos had 10 while Lizzy Calabrese had four aces. Shelby Rose had 16 digs and Carlson had 13. Enos had three blocks while Lainee Harrison had two.<\/p>\n
ELK RAPIDS \u2014 Buckley took part in the Elk Rapids Cross Country Invitational but did not score as a team on the boys\u2019 or girls\u2019 side.<\/p>\n
On the boys\u2019 side, Ethan Harrand took eighth in 18:32, Easton Harrand 13th in 19:11 and Mitchell Brand 45th in 22:17.<\/p>\n
