MINEOLA, Texas (KLTV) – Most art museums frown upon the idea of taking the artwork home with you, but in Mineola \u2014 it\u2019s encouraged!<\/p>\n
Henry\u2019s Treasure Trove is packed with antiques, but the walls are lined with works by artists from Van Gogh to Picasso.<\/p>\n
An art collection spanning across centuries, countries and continents \u2014 lines the walls.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have friends saying I should be in the stock market making my money,\u201d Royce Freeborne, art collector and owner of Henry\u2019s Treasure Trove said. \u201cI love art. So I\u2019m going to continue down my path unless God nudges me a different way.\u201d<\/p>\n
Freeborne owns the historic Henry Hotel and he\u2019s made it into an antique store, filling a large part of it with a collection rivaling museums.<\/p>\n
From Vincent Van Gogh, Marc Chagall, Salvador Dali \u2014 and even Picasso \u2014 the proof is signed in the corner.<\/p>\n
\u201cI like art. I got to collecting it when I had like 50,000 baseball cards,\u2019 Freeborne said.<\/p>\n
For his career in healthcare, Freeborne traveled from Mexico, Canada and to all fifty states \u2014 each trip leading to a chance to shop for art.<\/p>\n
Eventually, he owned several nursing homes across Texas and put his eye for art to use.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe bought artwork for the nursing homes instead of paying $10 for a Walmart piece of paper,\u2019 Freeborne said. \u201dIt breaks up the hallways from being a monotonous, terrible thing. Whether it was recognized or not, didn\u2019t matter to me, residents loved it. It\u2019s real art!\u201d<\/p>\n
He found pieces at local markets and art warehouses along the way.<\/p>\n
And since this art has traveled across oceans and generations… you may be wondering….<\/p>\n
Why is it here in Mineola?<\/p>\n
\u201cBecause I moved here,\u201d Freeborne said. \u201cI love the place, bought my first nursing home here on Highway 80. Come on! What\u2019s wrong with this town? It\u2019s a town of 5,000 people that should be 35,000 with what we have to offer.\u201d<\/p>\n
So, it may not be New York City… but no Met, no problem.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s right here in Mineola, folks!\u201d Freeborne said.<\/p>\n
This is a museum containing art you can explore and possibly take home with you.<\/p>\n
Now while there is prestigious art from some of the greats, Henry\u2019s Treasure Trove also hosts several local artists at more affordable price points.<\/p>\n
Freeborne said his artwork can be verified through authenticity paperwork and if you have any questions regarding a piece to just ask.<\/p>\n
