Corey Conners’ approach at the second hole seemed destined for out of bounds on Saturday afternoon during Presidents Cup foursomes. But as the shot sailed left and landed in the rough, left of the wooden, split-rail fence that lines the left side of the hole, a spectator suddenly kicked the ball, still in motion, onto the green.

Conners’ ball eventually settled just 13 feet from the hole, as several American fans started to boo.

While balls can take accidental ricochets off fans and be played where they come to rest, PGA Tour rules official Mark Dusbabek explained that because it was a “deliberate action,” Conners’ ball would be ruled out of bounds.

“You estimate where the ball would’ve landed if it wasn’t deflected,” Dusbabek said. “That ball would be out of bounds.”

After missing out on a potential lucky break, Conners and partner Nick Taylor went on to lose the hole to an American bogey, as Russell Henley and Jacob Bridgeman extended their lead to 2 up through as many holes.

File this under: Things you don’t see every day.
