(WPVI) — High tide flooding caused damage for homeowners and created challenges for visitors in Ocean City as a nor’easter continued to bring rain and coastal impacts to the Jersey shore.

About an hour after high tide on Saturday morning, residents and visitors were dealing with flooded streets, damaged property and difficult travel conditions while crews and homeowners cleaned up between tide cycles.

Nancy Pietras said about a foot of water entered the first floor of her Ocean City home despite efforts to keep floodwater out.

“My husband filled up all these flood tubes to keep it out of the garage and front entrance, and as you can see they’re all over the neighborhood. They just floated away,” Pietras said.

Floodwaters damaged vehicles and carried away trash cans, trailers and flower boxes throughout affected neighborhoods.

“Just taking a walk. Picking up trash. We went down the inlets on 10th and 11th streets,” said Henry McBride of South Philadelphia.

“From Asbury toward the bay, everything’s flooded. So we got really lucky,” said Renee Sickler of Alloway, N.J.

Along the beach, waves continued to erode sand, leaving a small shelf near Ninth Street, where a beach replenishment project was completed in late summer. Surfers took advantage of the large waves, while some people continued to walk along the boardwalk despite storm conditions. Most boardwalk businesses were closed.

“We played Uno and Heads Up! earlier,” said Evan Hoy of Collegeville.

The storm also disrupted weekend plans at the shore. Several major events were canceled, including the MS City to Shore Bike Ride.

“A bunch of us were going to do 75 miles or 100,” said Nancy Steketee of West Philadelphia. “When we woke up this morning, 5th Street in front of our place was flooded.”

Visitors who chose to spend the weekend at the shore despite the weather said flooding limited their ability to travel.

“We couldn’t really drive anywhere. We’re not leaving anytime soon,” said Sullivan Dougherty of South Philadelphia.

Officials continue to urge people not to drive through floodwaters and to stay off the beaches. An update on the storm and damage assessments is expected Sunday morning from New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill.

Copyright © 2026 WPVI-TV.
