A NYCHA worker was killed by a falling tree in Brooklyn on Saturday afternoon \u2014 the first casualty of the nor\u2019easter that is bearing down<\/a> with extreme wind gusts on the Atlantic Coast.<\/p>\n

The 56-year-old man suffered \u201ctrauma throughout his body\u201d when heavy winds brought down the tree near 700 Euclid Avenue<\/a> in East New York around 3:30 p.m., a police spokesman told The Post.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can confirm that this individual was a NYCHA employee,\u201d a spokesperson for NYCHA told The Post in a statement.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are deeply saddened by this tragic loss and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and the NYCHA community.\u201d<\/p>\n

NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani later identified the worker as Leighton Brown. <\/p>\n

\u201cMy thoughts are with his entire family as they deal with this unimaginable loss. May he rest in peace, and may his service to our city never be forgotten,\u201d Mamdani said on X Saturday night.<\/a><\/p>\n

Brown was rushed in critical condition to Brookdale Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after 5 p.m., cops said.<\/p>\n

NYCHA declined to confirm whether Brown was on the job when he was killed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Wind gust speeds reached up to 60 mph<\/a> on Saturday \u2014 and are expected to shoot up to as high as 80 mph in some areas on Sunday.<\/p>\n

The Parks Department told The Post that employees are working 12-hour shifts through the weekend to respond to tree damage caused by the storm.<\/p>\n
