I said that last night, I’ll double down on that. He gets back — he has in the past — a lot faster than what people can anticipate, and so I’m not putting a timeline on this. We’re going to say week-to-week. He’s going to attack this with everything that he knows.”

Chicago Bears quarterback Tyson Bagent has cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol and does not carry an injury designation for Monday night’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Bagent, however, is expected to serve as the backup to Case Keenum against the Eagles. Keenum, 38, was the only quarterback on Chicago’s 53-man roster to practice each day leading into Week 3.

Bagent was back at practice Saturday and was a full participant after missing the Bears’ prior two sessions. The Bears said the 26-year-old backup sustained a concussion on his second play in relief of Caleb Williams in Chicago’s 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. After Bagent threw a short pass to his left that fell incomplete, he was driven to the turf by Minnesota outside linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel.

Keenum, 38, has not started a game since the 2023 season when he was with the Houston Texans.

Johnson said Saturday that the Bears are still determining their quarterback depth chart against the Eagles, including who will start.

“There’s a different skill set, obviously,” Johnson said. “One guy’s a little bit more mobile than the other, and yet both are very cerebral players. I know they’ll be mentally prepared for the game, and we’ll see what it looks like. But there’s a reason why Tyson was the backup as we ended camp, and we felt good about who he is as a player and what he can bring to the table to this offense.”

As for Williams, he injured the same hamstring in college. Last week, the third-year star went down without contact in severe pain and was eventually carted off in the fourth quarter of Chicago’s 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

One reason for the pain was that Williams likely felt scar tissue breaking up from a past hamstring injury, a phenomenon that can be quite painful to experience but doesn’t lead to long-term damage.

If Williams misses three weeks, it would mean he is out for games against the Eagles, New York Jets, and Green Bay Packers. Week 6 against the Atlanta Falcons would be the fourth game, which seems attainable, as the Bears did not place Williams on injured reserve.

Copyright © 2026 ESPN Internet Ventures.
