Todd Rundgren is a) not afraid to speak his mind and b) not a Taylor Swift fan. We already learned this when, last year, he told MusicRadar<\/a> “I have yet to be convinced by any song that AI has come up with. Everything sounds like Taylor frickin\u2019 Swift!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Now the Bat Out of Hell producer and solo star has risked the wrath of Siwft\u2019s army of admirers, telling Vulture<\/a> that \u201cThere\u2019s an argument to be made that Taylor Swift ruined music\u201d, before labelling the world\u2019s most successful songwriter and performer \u201cto me, the apotheosis of mediocrity\u201d.<\/p>\n

And Rundgren has a theory about Swift\u2019s apparently baffling success, and it\u2019s all the fault of videogames.<\/p>\n

\u201cBack in the \u201990s, boys stopped spending money on music and started spending it on videogames, and that left the music market with, \u2018Well, where do we go here?\u2019\u201d, said 78-year-old Rundgren.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd they said, \u2018Well, there\u2019s all these young girls and they\u2019ve got their allowances, too. Why don\u2019t we start making music for young girls instead of Pearl Jam or something like that?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Not that Rundgren has it in for all female musicians. Just Swift, really. \u201cLady Gaga, she\u2019s a real musician. She\u2019s a classically trained piano player,\u201d Rundgren allowed.<\/p>\n
