Pixies<\/a> have brought out Pearl Jam<\/a>\u2018s Eddie Vedder<\/a> to perform \u2018Wave Of Mutilation\u2019 in California. Check out the footage below.<\/p>\n

The moment took place at this year\u2019s instalment of Ohana Festival, which was curated by Vedder and held at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, California over the weekend.<\/p>\n

On Sunday (September 27), Pixies took to the main stage for a stripped back set with 16 songs including \u2018Gouge Away\u2019 , \u2018Debaser\u2019, \u2018Here Comes Your Man\u2019, \u2018Where Is My Mind?\u2019 and covers of both The Jesus And Mary Chain\u2019s<\/a> \u2018Head On\u2019 and \u2018In Heaven (Lady in the Radiator Song\u2019 by Peter Ivers and David Lynch.<\/p>\n

For their rendition of \u2018Wave Of Mutilation\u2019 \u2013 which featured on their huge 1989 album \u2018Doolittle\u2019 \u2013 frontman Frank Black introduced it as \u201ca little nautical song\u201d which was fitting to break out while they were \u201chere by the beach\u201d.<\/p>\n

He also told the crowd that they were \u201cgoing to do it with the host with the most\u201d, Eddie Vedder. Check out their duet on the song below.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Vedder has a long history with Pixies, and has even previously named their \u2018Surfer Rosa\u2019 album as one of his all-time favourite records in a 2022 interview with Far Out<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cPixies were huge for me,\u201d he said at the time. \u201cFrank Black, or Black Francis, as he was called at the time, had this voice, he just let it loose. He\u2019d let it rip, and weird shit would happen.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cIt seemed not so much rebellious, but just free in the way he could just make sounds like \u2018aie! aie! aie!\u2019 and still get his point across\u2026 He was liberating himself with his voice. David Byrne was the same way. I\u2019ve never really been able to do that. Well, I think I have sometimes, but not like that\u201d.<\/p>\n

The outlet also shared a feature piece in 2023<\/a>, recalling how Vedder sought out advice from Pixies as Pearl Jam was on the rise \u2013 with drummer David Lovering organising a meet-up with Vedder, himself, and his wife who worked as a publicist for Epic Records.<\/p>\n

Reminiscing on what was said at the meeting, Lovering told Louder Sound<\/a>: \u201cI just wanted him to be confident about everything. When we parted I didn\u2019t think too much about it, I was just like, It\u2019s just another band. And I was quite wrong about that, because Pearl Jam just took off and got huge almost immediately it seemed.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

In other Pixies news, earlier this summer the band caught up with NME backstage at Mad Cool 2026<\/a> and responded to Dave Grohl<\/a>\u2019s recent claim that their seminal debut \u2018Surfer Rosa\u2019 is \u201cthe perfect record\u201d.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

As for Pearl Jam, the grunge icons also performed at Ohana Festival 2026<\/a>, and brought out longtime Paul McCartney<\/a> drummer Abe Laboriel Jr. behind the kit following Matt Cameron leaving the group after 27 years<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Their most recent studio album, \u2018Dark Matter\u2019, arrived in 2024.
