\n\tChannel 4<\/a> boss Priya Dogra<\/a> says she\u2019s \u201clooking for the next Messiah\u201d to replace outgoing chief content officer Ian Katz.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cYou will hear hopefully in the coming weeks,\u201d Dogra said, speaking at the Royal Television Society conference<\/a> in London. \u201cI can\u2019t pin down the time because it\u2019s an incredibly important decision for me. It\u2019s an incredibly important decision for the channel and for the industry. I don\u2019t take it lightly.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAlthough declining to name any contenders for the role, she said \u201cthere are incredibly talented people in the frame.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn terms of criteria, Dogra said she was looking for someone who could \u201cpush the boundaries of Channel Four,\u201d who can attract the \u201cbest commissions\u201d from independent producers and who can \u201crally\u201d a team that has been \u201csomewhat disrupted and somewhat bruised after restructuring.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLast month Channel 4 announced it would be cutting its workforce by 28%<\/a>. Katz, who joined the network in 2018, announced earlier this year<\/a> he planned to step down in the fall.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe leaves at a critical time for Channel 4, which has seen one of its most popular and profitable shows, \u201cMarried at First Sight U.K.\u201d rocked by an abuse scandal<\/a> while recently-appointed Dogra last month announced a sweeping round of cost-cutting. <\/p>\n

\n\tChannel 4 is widely believed to be at risk \u2013 or possibly in need \u2013 of acquisition or at least partnership. Fellow commercial public service broadcaster ITV is in the process of being acquired by Comcast-owned Sky. Earlier at the conference, Sony Pictures TV international boss Wayne Garvie said he thought Channel 4 should merge<\/a> with the BBC.<\/p>\n

\n\tHowever Dogra was adamant that she is prepared to go it alone, saying: \u201cI\u2019m not positioning it for a takeover.\u201d<\/p>\n
